Im thinking about bobbing my TBA...would be a shame to loose the chrome hangers I just bought...My question is...can you cut the fenders without having to repaint them? has anyone just rolled the rear fender forward? Any ideas for lowering the front end to give it a more level ride and look? Any aftermarket dashes that sit more flush? Im open to suggestions and ideas...

I did hear of someone pushing the rear fender up. Where the heck was that? I can't find it. Dude, your bike is getting more and more sick. Keep it up.

I don't think you can roll the back fender forward as the fender is flat in front for bolting purposes. Pull your seat and take a look.

Easiest way to lower the front end is to loosen the cap screws in the upper and lower triple clamps. Let the fork tubes slide up in clamps and re-tighten. Make sure they are the same length sticking up from the upper triple clamp. Also note that you will have less travel for the front suspension because the lower shrouds will be lower on the fork tube.

should I loosen the clamps while someone sitting on the bike? Do I need to change any fluid? And what will this do to the ride exactly? Thanks!

You should get the bike on a bike jack and take the load off the forks (bike will not be in the air, but have no weight on front end), then loosen them, then lower the bike down onto the forks. You may have to tap the forks from the bottom to get them to slide up in the trees.
This will quicken the steering a bit. I did it to my Bonneville and it handles better. You will probably want to do it an inch at most. It does look great!

all you'll have to loosen is the triple clamps where they hold the forks. No fluid changes of any kind. This is a quick operation.

Sweat, tried doing that with my Speedmaster last saturday, couldn't get the stanchions to budge, even with the yoke bolts almost all the way out, although I didn't try lowering the jack like that. Thanks for mentioning that, it'll give me something else to try tonight!

There are a total of 4 bolts that you need to loosen, two on the lower yoke, two on the upper yoke. If I remember right, the lower bolts are 8mm Hex Head, the upper bolts are 5mm Hex head. Once I had my bolts loosened, I just couldn't persuade the stanchions to move upward, but I'll try again using the jackstand to lower the bike's weight against them, like what Sweatmachine said. No, you don't have to pull the shrouds.

you can also whack the top triple clamp with a mallet, which will put some downforce on it...I did this while lowering the motorcycle jack with one foot. Kinda an akward but coordinated move.
I actually put one mallet against the clamp, and hit the rubber mallet with another mallet so not to damage anything.

measuring tape. I measured the tops of the fork legs that will be poking through the top tree.

Which reminds me!!! Need to walk over to Sears (next door) when I'm technically off the clock in 15 minutes to buy a rubber mallet. Can't believe I've made it this far in life without my own rubber mallet!

Someone, long ago, said they cut the rear fender with a fine cut-off wheel and only had to touch up the paint at the cut. I don't remember who said it or any details.

Do a search on front end wobble, or alignment, and use unclecharlie for a username. He has done the re-alignment thing a couple times, his bike was off out of the box...

The Bonnie is great.
If you cut your fenders you will have to touch up the paint. Cover the fenders in blue tape, mark your cuts with a sharpie, and use a dremel with a fine cut off wheel.
I use a 4.5'' angle grinder, it is less forgiving but can cut through anything.

Speaking of the Bonnie, here she is. it will have some mods done this weekend though. I'm going to lower the headlight and the gauges (which should lower the whole profile) and install different turn signals, a new rear fender, and a new taillight...

low cafe bars from newbonneville. I'm actually going to install some speedmaster bars soon. I may have to widen them an inch or 2 to clear the tank.

Ryan, on the main PhotoPost page, right below where it says welcome, click on Member Galleries. With the member's name in mind, look near the top where you'll see the alphabet and numberrs. Click on the first letter of the member's name you are looking for. Once at the page for that letter, you may have to go through a page or two to get to the particular member. Then click on the photo above the member's name which will take you to their gallery.

It would be awesome if there was a link to one's gallery in their profile, so I could just click on your name in that post, then go straight to your gallery... But I think I may be asking too much of our BBB threads, no? One other tip for looking at pics, I usually right-click on "protopost" and select "open in new window" that way I don't have to go re-find whatever thread it was referring to. Also maked it much easier to post relevant pics within a thread.

Another way to do it if your forks are really stubborn (like mine were last night) is to loosen the 4 yoke bolts, then maintaining control of the bike, walk it into a wall, or better yet a door stoop. I did that last night, and the forks instantaneously dropped 4 inches on me. then wheeled the bike back onto the stand, and tapped them down to the height that I was going for, which ended up being about .95 inches.

I was more worried about getting the forks exactly level with each other, than I was about the precise height above the yoke. .95 inches off my vernier caliper set was close enough to one inch where I had the forks leveled with each other that I was satisfied.

those lights are all over ebay and lots of other places. Search for "sparto tail light" or they're also called "limp dick" or "limp sausage"

thanks guys...o and I lowered the forks an inch...Im gonna adjust my bars back up to stock angle or throw on some old drag bars I had laying around...not sure if they'll be wide enough though...So you guys think its possbile to bobb the rear fender without messing up the paint? maybe just touch it up with black paint on the rim or...use door gaurd from pep boys to edge it out for a smooth edge

The door guard will definitly cover it as long as you tape it up so you don't chip it.
