The exact same thing happened to dill in New Hampshire. The problem turned out to be a loose coil connection with the two small wires plugging into it from the CDI box. This would cause the coil to misfire, then fire and burn unspent gas in the pipes. His one pipe was destroyed, blistered all the chrome off of it the same way. Check to see if these wires are loose.
