BUTLER, Pa. -- One man is dead and two men are in critical condition after an accident in Jackson Township.

The crash happened Thursday in front of a shopping center along Route 19.

Police said John Cartwright drove his pickup truck across the center line, hitting three motorcyclists.

Rowdy Conley Jr., 54, died; 33-year-old John Cusick and 27-year-old Matt Montgomery were taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

Both men were listed in critical condition.

There is no word on if any charges are being filed against the truck driver.

I'm sorry guys, but what's with all these posting here lately about the death and destruction perpetrated upon us motorcyclist by the clueless and or drunk cagers.

THESE ARE THE RISKS WE TAKE once we put our collective butts upon these machines.

It's OUR JOB to make sure that WE are cognizant of these IDIOTS out there AT ALL TIMES...and I doubt that these continued posts about these incidents serve any purpose in reminding us all of our...DUTY...in this matter.

IF you don't know this simple fact-of-life by now, you shouldn't park your butt on one of these things, let alone take it out there on the road with all those cellphone-using/DRUNK/clueless CAGERS.

Well said Dwight. You've got to ride like everyone is out to kill you. It's nothing personal-the cages run into each other far more often than bikes-but that's not news worthy.

And they didn't even mention if the riders were wearing helments.

I just read about it in the Butler Eagle there are pictures that shows the police taking the guy away in handcuffs because he became belligerant and uncooperative. I don't know why the H#*L he would become belligerant he is the one that drove across the center line and hit the motorcyclists. What could he possibly be thinking, that he may have been in the right? This is hard to believe. I do not know any of the guys but they are from my general area but it is sad to hear of any riders getting killed. Be careful out there!

I think these posts help to remind us all to stay on our toes,
and always be on the lookout for the cagers.

I whole-heartedly agree with the first part of that statement, but not the second. I've already got two more weeks in a wheelchair to remind me; with that on top of constant reminders of cagers kill, it'll all serve to keep me on my toes.

On the other hand, I find plenty of reminders in my own newspaper, too.

Grump,
You make good sense about the newbies here being "reminded". I sometimes forget that being a motorcyclist for 40 years has afforded me not only a "second sense" about that seemingly innocuous situation/driver ahead that oft times can turn out to be yet another potentially dangerous "event-in-the-making", but also has given me a certain amount of "healthy" cynicism about the abilities/attentiveness of my fellow motorists.

And benjammin,
I'm sorry to hear that somebody evidently "got cha". But, I'm glad to hear you only have a few weeks to go before you're up and about again.

Cheers,
Dwight

I hate to bring up any helmet debates, but usually the media is all over it if they were not wearing helmets. If someone dies with a helmet, they don't mention that as it's not as exciting and derogatory.
