Ok boys... consider this... say the much rumored America styled 1500cc cruiser doesn't come out. Lets also say the '07 America only gets the 865 motor. QUESTION: would it make any sense to trade in a '06 with the 790cc for the newer version with the 865?
'06 TBA - Black, AI and Snorkel removed, K&N Drop In, Gutted Stock Pipes, 145/42, 2 turns out.

Why? Don't you like the 790? If they came out with a 1500 I wouldn't trade in my Speedmaster. But as part of my 5 year plan I'd consider moving up to another bike. ...only 4 years to go...

Naaa...not nearly enough difference to bother considering you may do it then soon find a 1500 or some other much more considerable upgrade staring you in the face. I'm hanging on to my speedy till something that is a REAL upgrade comes along. It would at the very least take EFI before i considered an upgrade.

With the improvements I've made in my TA, I doubt the 865 would be much different unless I started all over again. Now an EFI, belt driven, 1500cc cruiser that would be more comfortable traveling 2-up would definitely get my attention. I'm in no hurry to let go of my TA right now, just have to wait and see.

The idea of a bike that resembles the America/Speedie in a 14 to 1500 CC powerplant with all the extra ju ju juice and torque definitely makes me salivate.
Said bike would be a big move for Triumph as far as competing with Yamahammer, Honda, and Kawasaki in particular in the metric cruiser category. Triumph simply has nothing in the class except the America/Speedie and the next available bike at 16K is the monstrously ugly albeit well performing Rocket.
Triumph needs a bike that is "good looking" while offerinng more power in a cruiser than the 790/865 can offer.
I'd need to wait and see what it looks like but at that time if the appeal is there the need to pick one up will be powerful even if it means losing the speedmaster.

Hell no, I like my 790. It's just right for cruising.

I would really like a bike like the TBA that would handle 2 up riding a bit better.

This is the first year that I'm starting to believe the rumours about a new America and Speedmaster. Why you ask? I believe that the new '07 models, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, have to conform to the new E.U. emissions standards. I recall reading somewhere that carbs will no longer be permitted on vehicles of any sort and that cat converters will be mandatory. What this will do is completely change what our bikes are like and how they will look. I'm alright with that, I like my bike but change is also good and you never know what can come about with it. What I really would hate to see go are the "classic" range from Triumph. The Bonnies, Thruxtons, and Scramblers. Those just wouldn't have the feel of nostalgia with a new styled engine. Would Triumph bother to put in faux carbs just for the look? Who knows.
Now if I am wrong, I've heard of this happening just never in my presence, and the 865 engine is put into our bikes would I upgrade? Nope. The work and attention I've put into my bike wouldn't be worth it. I think it would be much more cost effecient to just put in a big bore.

Depends on if you use it in a sentence or at the end of a sentence. Eh?

Triumph has a real hole in their product line. On the cruiser side a jump from 900 to 2300 is, uh, not good marketing. Sometime they are bound to adress it but I bet it will be with FI, catalytic converters, complete engine computer control and all sorts of limitations on what can and can not be changed on the bikes. The dealer service will rule once they control the entire engine by computer.
The automobiles changes their codes every year and keep them very secret. Doing very much to a current auto engine without the huge expense of recertifying the EPA is difficult. And they will cost a LOT more money.
Would I trade for a another bike-no way.

If these after market big bore and stroker kits are
available, it shows that there is a market for them.
Heck, I'd love to have the stroker.
I can't be the only one. Why doesn't Triumph get it?
I want a 1,000 to 1,200 cc air-cooled parallel twin.
I don't want fuel injection, or water-cooling.

I'm 66" 230....wife 5'2" and 120...two up no problem...just finished a 800 three day weekend ride on the VA, NC BR Parkway....HOWEVER.....if a 1050-1500 crusier cam out I would buy for longer trips....bigger would mean MORE leg space/comfort for us....Would never trade the 02 Black BA..

IMO I wouldn't do that trade. Like others say, there'll be a lot of interest if Triumph comes out with a "mid-sized engine". Depending on the configuration, especially water cooled etc.
On a side note it's interesting how our definition of "size" has evolved. I was listening to all night trucker radio last week and a techy guy was saying how 30+ years ago OTR rigs were in the 165 Hp class, now we're pushing +300 Hp, pulling the same loads on the same roads. I know folks around here, with a couple acres and 2 horses, driving dually wheeled, 4WD diesel powered pickups.
Having ranted on that, a middle sized cruiser should do well in the marketplace. Triumph seems to be making carefully considered decisions since the resurrection. Myself, it would take a lot to part with the 790. Too much investment and add-ons. Besides, it suits me and seems to run better all the time . I'd consider a Tiger or something along those lines, then I'd have to buy Cortech gear

Interesting John, the trucker's comment rings a bell w/me. Have owned 2-6cyl Jeep GR. Cherokees that got 15 mpg, had ok power and top end but towing loads left a little to be desired. So the 3rd one is the 4.7 V8 and it gets 16 mpg, better everything and lower rpms too. No doubt, longer engine life and better mpg motivates truckers too.
