Are steel toes boots good to ride in? Are they much different? Do you lose any "feel"? A local HD distributor had some real nice ones on sale for 50% off.

I have always ridden with steel toes. Only thing is if they have a chunky toe you may need to re-adjust the shift lever.

I've always used them. Stay with the lower profiles and you can often get away without shifter adjustment.

They can get a bit heavy after awhile. But they work. A previous discussion brought up some safety problem, but I forget what that was....

It was about getting your toes cut off when/if the end of the steel curled down from whatever force. This was also experimented with on Mythbusters. I believe the outcome was that it took catastrophic force to achieve the cutoff toes result. I'm betting you'd be worrying about other things if those forces were to occur. However, I did not sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night!

hahaha Yeah if you get your foot smashed with enough force to cutoff your toes, then I would imagine the resulting smush from no steel toe would require amputation anyway.

I really don't like the word smush and toes in the same sentence! I guess I'll look into steel toes!

But there's no give at the end, if you jam your toe into the steel while kicking, you could lose a toenail.

I wear steelies....mainly cos work pays for them, and as I have stupidly small feet, I get to choose a style I like! As my feet are so small, I can struggle to change gear in some boots that are not steelies - I use the toe cap for that. My left foot is my smaller foot...and before you ask...they're a UK size 4 1/2, I think that's a US size 6. Kids size anyway!
