OK, I wanted a trunk that meet several of MY needs. 1. has to look like it fits the bike. 2. has to be easily removable. 3. has to carry at the lest a twelve pack. Having looked on-line and not finding what I wanted, I dug an old swap meet trunk outta the basement. (My basement now looks like a bomb went of in the 60s era Triumph factory) A little cutting to get the fit and look I wanted resulted in this: Now to the mounting system. It will use the backrest hole on the corbin up front. Still working on the rear area. But all mounts will be hidden. So, what ya all think? Oh, and it will be painted Black and Blue to match!

I dig it. I bet you could even mount a backrest to the front of it.

Believe me I wouldn't tell ya As for the rear mounting, I would say mount a tab to it and then run the rear seat bolt thru it and the back of the gunfighter, but that doesn't give much side to side. You think that the stem into the corbim will provide enough lateral support?

The stem will be solid steel running into the trunk then welded to a plate bent to match the contour of the front of the trunk. A plate will be bent to fill the hole I I cut in the trunk wrapping the seat. Then it will all be welded then reglassed to seal. I'm thinking small braces leading to the struts for side to side support near the rear. The trunk will be level and match the tank lines.
The rear mount will most likely be lockable and blend into the new brackets for the tail lite I'm putting on.

very pretty start. Does your seat go back under the trunk? I can't quite make it out. That would give some lateral stability.
I want a trunk too. I keep thinking it cant be that hard to mount a platform for it on the frame rails. With it sitting over your seat though, all you would need to do is lock it down to the rails some how.
more pics as you progress please.

Yes, the seat is under the trunk. It's a Corbin Gunfighter seat. I cut the trunk too sink down over the seat. I hate trunks that sit above the seat! Ruins the flow of the bike! Now I'll bend some sheet for the inside to wrap the seat so to say. Then fiberglass the whole inside to seal it. As I stated, the lines of the trunk will match the tank so it has "that look". Once it's painted to match the black and Blue, well, I think I got a winner here. Should I get alot of interest I will see about fabing a few more.

The travel trunk looks great. For those less gifted at making adaptations, LeatherLyke makes a medium size trunk about 12x12 inches that will bolt to the luggage rack. It's not way big but will do and looks good.

I think it went to the califonia vapor system. I just covered it with a bit of stainless sleeve and left it there. It could be hidin' but it's an eye catcher!

Maybe a line for an auto-oiler?

Would you have the dimensions of what you had to cut out of the box?

If you didn't want it to be removable, you could move the back light and / or indicators to the trunk, and chop the rear mudguard

Hey, that's going to look good Jeff when you're done. How much space did you lose in the trunk when you cut it to fit the seat?

Looks great! Can't wait to see it with the matching paint scheme.

Only gave up the width of the seat by about 2.5 inches. It's cut to follow the contuor of the seat for a tight fit.

Steve, What I did was slide a poster board under the seat and traced it. Then I transfered the pattern to the trunk. I cut the bottom out and did several test fits, markings to get the fit I wanted. I can make a pattern and post it if you want.

Hi Jeff, Thanks for the reply. I was having a problem visualising how to get the pattern onto the box, but like all these things, once it's been explained it seems obvious. Thanks again for your time - now to hit the autojumbles for a box to chop up Steve

Ya threw me for a second with the autojumbles. One of those "other side of the pond" phrases, eh? I like it!
