This is looking good! Welcome guys!
Wojo and Airguy ... any decisions yet? You seem to be taking a very long time about it ... or was it just yesterday we were discussing it? (Just kidding!)

You won't believe this, but that is exactly what I was just thinking.
I have a couple of other guys in mind who are also considering coming across the pond for the rally (they're working on it).
Is it July yet?

I want to come over also. Broached this subject with Janet yesterday, talking about the beauty of Sweden, riding, won't cost THAT much, being with friends, etc...

She said "If I go over (across the pond), I want to go to Bordeaux"

WTF??

As the Colorado River created the Grand Canyon, I will continue wearing her down. Granite takes a lot though!

Phil,

You were one of the 2 I had in mind.
In order to help you in your "negotiations", we'll just start a new thread (political? ) complaining that the "President" of this site cannot be absent from the Euro-rally a second time around.
A public outcry, that's what we'll do!

(Will this help?)

I don't believe I have had the pleasure of meeting Mark(LitzerSki) but if Matt(Mlessard) is in and John(Wojo) I am definitely going to be leaning towards making this happen. Sounds like it'd be freaking awesome. Will we be able to rent that many Trumps?

Phil, keep workin' on the little woman.

Well, it looks like a really international/intercontinental rally is on for next August! Johann (Gooseman) and I have talked about more options than camping and/or the 12 cabin beds. We were thinking of hotels/motels/hostels not too far from where the rally is held. We'll get back to you later about this. One growing thought is that we all take a one-day ride around lake Vättern (second largest lake in Sweden) - approx. 350km/217miles. Beautiful scenery and lots of nice places to see on the ride. Comments on this is appreciated...

The base camp is located in the south-west part of the lake, just north of Jönköping.

Great to hear that so many are up for this. We'll do our best to make this a weekend to remember.

More to come...

Piper,

Sounds like an excellent idea to me.

P.S. What does Vättern mean? I notice the bigger lake is called Vänern. Any connection in the names?

Keith, do you think the kitchens there will be big enough for the two of us to cook again? I'll have to learn some Swedish dishes.

The more I think about this the more I want to go. I'm jsut wondering if I should fly into Sweden or somewhere else and ride over. Any thoughts?

The name Vättern is just an ancient local word for water. Not a bad name concidering there is about 75 cubic kilometres (!) of water in the lake... I remember Martyns comment two years ago when we rode down the eastern side: -This is not a lake, it's a sea...

To quote a film.. " we are going to need a bigger boat"

This is going to be an event to remember.. we (the UK guys & Gals) will need to think about pre-booking the ferry in plenty of time.

P.S.. any of the guys from over the pond that need somewhere to crash are welcome at mine, I am near to both Gatwick & Heathrow Airport & in the best County in England, Kent

Well I figured since the daughters were already locked up, it meant that sisters and neices were game.

So how about neighbors, friends, acquaintences, in-laws, or anything else?

Hey Mark I think it would be easier for the concerned to just lock up your "gear" and hide the key until the Rally is over. (I know - no fun in that!)

Here's an interesting site I've come across for some info;
Biker's Advice

It's got an article about riding in Sweden here.

It looks like my international license will cost me $15 Cdn. and I found the application at CAA which is the Canadian version of AAA. I'm sure they would have the info there as well and you don't have to be a member to apply for one.

I'm still looking for bike rental (hire) site to get a better idea, although I've found several that hire Triumphs and BMW's, moreso the latter than the former.

Plus it looks like Orbitz is giving me a price of just over a $1000 US for a flight from Detroit to Heathrow on July 31, taxes included.

Yep, that is what I was getting, about $1100 from O'Hare (Chicago) to Arlanda (Stockholm). Got the same price whether I checked Expedia or United Airlines directly. I'm thinking we should be able to get airfare for a little less than that but not by much during the summer months.

As for the beer drinking; BRING IT ON!
