Does anyone know if the Pennzoil is a good one for our bikes? I've never tried that brand, but have been offered to buy it at a good price. Quote:

Piper, no motorcycle experience with Pennzoil, but if it leaves residue behind in the bike like I've seen in some cars, I'd steer clear. Used to be Pennzoil was a parafin based oil, and they (parafin oils) all used to cause problems (my experience mostly with Japanese cars). I have always recommended an "ash-based" oil, Castrol, Mobil, Valvoline in cars. My personal take on the bike is to use the Triumph recommended Mobil; oil's cheap enough, and if Hinkley want's Mobil, Mobil it is. Lot's of other opinions, now you have mine...  Cheers, Mike

Good Morning! I've had some very good mechanics tell me over the years to avoid PennSoil and QuaCkerState, and not even use them in an old lawnmower. I think those opinions are a bit harsh, but I have stayed away from both brands.

Is that Pennzoil motorcycle oil Full Synthetic? What viscocity? Never knew they made such, but not surprised.
If it is Full-Syn, then it might be allright. I've never minded spending the money to buy the better product, but the simple fact that you can't get the Triumph Mobil one oil anywhere but the dealer got me to looking elsewhere.
I wonder how many options you may have, there in Sweden?
I haven't been satisfied by what's on the label of the other Mobil One motorcycle oils, although they, too, may be allright. They sure seem geared to the V-twins to me, though.
I use Shell Rotella-T Synthetic. Others use Amsoil.
Others will speak up on this thread with their own thoughts.

We've got options allright, but this was a good offer (or could be), (read pretty cheap). So far I've used the very expensive Mobil 1 bought at the dealer, some junk oil called Spectro (lots of extra engine noice but supposed to be perfect) and Motorex which was pretty good. I've read many good reviews here on Amsoil, but that brand doesn't exist here and my buddy swears by Motul which I've never tried. It's a djungle...

Piper, I have looked into Motorex, but their literature doesn't say anything about meeting API SH, only SG. I asked them about it, and they say it is impossible to meet SH and JASO MA (but our containers from Triumph say just that). Maybe they meet SJ now instead, will have to ask. I noticed when I got some of the Triumph Oil the other day, it is now labeled SJ instead of SH, which just means others can now use our Liquid Gold if they so choose!

Since the two standards are a bit different, it is technically impossible to exactly meet both. BUT, the CYA is "Meets or exceeds". I've never seen any engine builder fault anyone for using a better than specified oil.

Agreed. When Motorex says it at least exceeds SH (and not just SG) then I'll give them a try (if they are any cheaper by the time shipping is added in that is, since there is no local dealer here in SC) I'm always looking for better...
