Gina.. good news if we get the ferry to Esberg from Harwich we do have the option of getting a ferry from Helsingor to Helsingborg in Sweden instead of the bridges but I know you would be disappointed if you couldn't do the bridges

Hi all, I have been in contact with the campsite and pre booked their cabins for our Euromeet 2007. They have 3 cabins with 4 beds each. One of the beds will be reserved for our friend Thanassis (Bedouin) from Greece who after the 3100 km (1900 mile) trip from Athens has earned the right to sleep in a bed :-) and the others are up for grabs. The cabins are tested by Ba.com members Martyn, Piper and Gooseman in 2005 and found to meet the Ba.com standard :-)

Johann, Thanks for that, please make it 2 beds as I will not be making this trip alone next year. Also, I will break this trip up as my limit is around 1000 miles (1600 kms) in one go, after which I start losing concentration a little (an understatement ), as observed during my return from the Asendorf trip.

Nope, I haven't decided on the passenger just yet.
All I know is I'll probably go north through the Balkans (as opposed to via Italy): From Greece - FYR Macedonia - Serbia - Hungary - Slovakia - Czech Republic - NorthEast Germany - Denmark - Sweden (or alternatively from Slovakia through Poland to Gdansk and across to Sweden).
I therefore think that because of the route/s a mini-vacation is justified ... and it is always better with 2.

From a conversation I had with Grzegorz, I get the feeling that he wouldn't recommend the roads in Poland?

Shaun,
They cannot be much worse than the roads on some of our islands I just got back from last week (especially with a cliff within metres/yards of the road).
Besides, 2-up I always take it very very slowly (following a bad accident I had 2-up in my younger days)... I quite like my fellow passengers the way they are (I don't much care about myself).

Come to think of it, I don't know if I'll follow the above route on my going or on my coming back, since Adey and I discussed touring the northern part of Italy, a while back . I just can't remember if we were to do it pre-Sweden or post-Sweden. Either way, I am totally flexible and we still have almost a year for planning. About 15 years ago I walked into a local tavern and there was a sign on the wall that read something like this: "I can't remember what my wife said to me ... drink 2 and be home at 9 ... or was it drink 9 and be home at 2"

Ok, just toying with the idea, but man would it be cool to hit this rally. Me and a buddy have already discussed potentially doing a tour of Ireland on bikes. If that's a go, this one would be unlikely. However, if that doesn't go, this might be worth a little trip over to Sweden. Been there before a few times on business. Sure would be nice to do it for pleasure. Are there any bike rental places? If so, best place to fly in to, local accomodations, etc.? Any other logistical concerns for an American to come over and ride there such as licensing, insurance, etc.? If I am gonna' do this I guess it is time to start planning. Any help, ideas or suggestions are appreciated if ya'll wouldn't mind havin' a yankee in your midsts.
Ride On!

I don't kow if this helps but I've copied it from the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licencing Authority)website: Quote:
Visitors You may drive vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes and with up to eight passenger seats, provided your full licence or driving permit remains valid for up to 12 months from the date of coming to GB. However, you may only drive large vehicles which have been registered outside GB and which you have driven into the country.
I would imagine it would be the same in Sweden.
Bike hire would be simular to car hire - when you hire it, it would come with insurance. Just make sure you have all the details right and explain you want to take it abroad. I suspect it would not be cheap and I don't know of anywhere that hires out Truimphs...but I have been known to be wrong.
And I wouldn't mind a Yankee tagging along!

So far I'm 80% sure I'm making the trek across the pond. Ah...make that 90%. Now I just have to work out the logistics of the whole affair. Anyone with any insight on shipping my bike over (that way if I decide to stay, I have it with me) vs. renting a bike and advice on costs and customs and such would be much appreciated.
Realistically, I'm thinking about 2 weeks, flying into the UK and departing from there.

Hey Mark I just got home after landing at Heathrow around 08:30 (13:30 your time). You want to come to the Sweden run?, problem solved ... 1. Get your a$$ on a flight to London Heathrow (depending on how far in front you book and time of year, I'm guessing probably $400 return), try British Airways. 2. I get you from the airport, 3. You can kip at mine before the trip, 4. You can ride my America to the run. Having ridden so many miles with you, I wouldn't hesitate to loan you my bike - and bonus, it's almost as dirty as yours , 5. You play chase the ST which is what I'll use , 6. I'll drop back to Heathrow when you leave. I'm guessing here on costs for shipping, but I was going to ship my America out for the NorEast (to Florida and ride up). One way was £450 ($800) and would take 3 weeks. They didn't give return shipping fee for some reason ...... ??? Based on everything else I've priced up though, you'll probably get a return shipping for 50 bucks Insurance would need to be sorted but I can't see that being a problem. I'll have large leather bags (with Easy brackets) fitted in the next few days. Did you want suspension or hardtail? I have the struts to make it a 'hardtail' which I'm spraying up this afternoon and fitting later - just to have a play with it. Be good.
