I wouldn't worry too much about covering up, plus I've read a few threads on the rat.net where water was able to collect inside the boot, and cause the idiot light to give a false indication of low oil pressure. If you're concerned about it, just undo the screw that actually holds the wire to the sender and dab some dielectric grease on it.
