Stupid Ernesto. Looks like we may be spared from a bad one but it is still going to be nasty. I will definitely be boarding up, rather be safe than sorry. Everybody hunker down! Look at the second hurricane symbol from the bottom where it has 30 01:00AM L 69 Gust 86 MPM. My house is just above the 01

It's still better than living in Arizona, so don't get any ideas about packing up and moving here. But seriously, be safe and I hope you don't get hammered by the storm.

Thank goodness it isn't going to be a hurricane. The state of Florida needs desparately to get by a season or two without one. I'm on the northern gulf coast with nothing but a sliver of barrier island (whittled down after the last two years) between my house and the visible gulf. Insurance is getting to be a serious problem here. We were devastated by Ivan (04) and had direct hits with Arlene (TS) and Dennis in 05. And still our remaining now duneless coastline was raked by Katrina and Rita before the season ended. I wouldn't wish it on anyone, but PLEASE stay away from Florida for awhile.

Based on this track it looks like the eye will be within a couple of miles of my house in Cape Canaveral. I will worry more about the wave and surge since I live about 0.5 miles from the beach.

Two years ago we had pretty hard hits with Francis and Jean, and minor hits with Ivan and Charlie. I had roof damage, lost most of the trees in my yard, lost my fences (twice). Fortunately, none of us were hurt. We went without power for a grand total of five weeks between the two bad storms. I don't believe this one is going to be anywhere near as bad as they were, but I still get very uneasy looking at the storm track. All precautions will be taken again. Looks like the southernmost folks around Miami and Lauderdale are going to get the worst of it and my thoughts and prayers go out for everyone's safety. Take care, and be safe.

waa waa waa, what a baby. And you give us Yankees stuff for living in the snow belt. At least the house don't rearrange themselves when we have a storm.
Seriuosly, hunker down and stay safe, be sure the cooler is fully stocked and the guns are loaded.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

After 10 years of living in South Florida, I finally bought hurricane shutters. Am I putting them up....No, it's a coin toss. "It is only a Tropical Storm". But my Blue Bonnie is in the house and not the garage. Mark

Not making light of your predicament but: A serious letter, taken from a Welsh newspaper.............. Storms Just wanted to share this with you as it is quite relevant and really does make you think about how fortunate we are. With all the news on TV lately about the sub-zero weather and the hurricanes that America is experiencing and recent mud slides in the Middle East and South America, we shouldn't forget that UK has its share of devastating weather too - especially the night before last. Attached is a photo illustrating the damage caused to my friend's home in Pontypridd from the recent storm that passed through. It really makes you cherish what you have, and reminds us not to take things for granted.
If you do it today you MIGHT regret it. If you CAN'T do it tomorrow you WILL regret it.

Brummie, I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read/saw that, It would've been sprayed all over my laptop! I was expecting to see a big tree crashed through a house, or something something of the sort.
That's f'n funny. I can't look at the pic without crackin' up.

I don't know how you can stand it! Oh the humanity!! So far this one has not increased in strength! Still going to be quite windy and VERY wet. Probably get about 6-8" of rain. I can handle that.

Phil, "oh the humanity", that's exactly what I was thinking when I saw that over turned chair!

In Palm Bay where I'm at we have very bad problems with flooding streets. 6-8" of rain means I'd have to get the canoe out for my morning commute!
