Sorry, big shock, I disagree. I keep hearing this argument from the Wall Street guys on Fox, and it still makes no sense to compare rutabegas, or any other crop, to oil, it really is like comparing apples to oranges! I can live without rutabegas, corn, and a lot of other things when the prices are jacked up, but ya know what, our country is not set up for us to live without oil, or some similar alternative. Sure, I could make my 7 year old walk the 3 miles to school, and tell my wife to stop her whining and walk the 2 miles to work. Why not? I drive vehicles that all get excellent mileage (by todays standards), and still feel like I'm taking it in the shorts every time I put a nozzle in my tank. I drive only to/from work/store/school, nothing else. I don't ride my bike for anything except to/from the same places, because the extra $1.50 a gallon since I bought the bike is eating my bank account dry. Should they offer a bus/commuter train, or heck even put a bike path/sidewalk so I don't have to share the road with 18 wheelers (sorry, I don't mind being on a bike on the highway if I've got a CHANCE to outrun the cars/trucks!) I'd do even more to save gas. Do I place all the blame with oil companies? NO, also speculators who drive prices up. But, PLEASE, do not insult us by telling us how rough the oil companies have it in rough times, because in the 100+ years of the Oil Industry, I think we can count those "rough times" on one hand!
