Has anyone ever tried gel insert gloves? Any comments, brand preferences?

I think my power trip dakota gloves advertise a gel palm. Is that the kind of thing you mean? I like the gloves very much (warm and waterproof) but I can't say I've ever given the gel a second thought. link to description

I've used them to run an impact wrench, but not for riding. I think the gel is primarily to absorb vibration, (but don't quote me on that) which isn't a problem with Triumphs, at least not that I know of anyway.
Just a thought - and I'm not telling you what to do, but, with Fall & Winter coming, perhaps the money would be better spent on Gore Tex gloves. (Cabelas generally sells Gore Tex at far less than a motorcycle supply store.) http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/common...e&noImage=0
More Gore - http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/common...s&noImage=0
Don't let the low prices fool you - Cabelas sells good quality.

I do have vibration problem... currently un-diagnosed. I do love Cabelas, been buying from them for years. Great products!

A little OT - Cabelas is apparently going to open their first retail store in East Hartford, CT one of these months. Remind me not to go there with a credit card. I stopped at Campmor on 17 in Joisy one day - that got expensively ugly.

I bought a pair a few years back when I was riding an Adventurer which had extreme handlebar buzz. They were expensive and well made but didn't work. Even when I use them now while riding the TBA they don't seem to do anything. IMO they dont't work. It seems like they should but for some reason they just don't.

Get the Kuryakin(sp?) Iso-Grips. They help a LOT! Jane has some gel-pad gloves and Iso-grips, but she has a Magna and the vibration is non-existant with the entire deal. I've worn her gloves and they help "a little" but not enough to buy them just for that reason, the iso grips helped a lot with handlebar buzz. After two long hauks down to Georgia from NY, I needed something as my hands would get really sore and numb after the first 800 miles. Also, get the throttle rocker with the Iso's.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

They're very big with the Harley crowd. Oh god....please don't ban me for that comment based on the new posting rules! I don't mean to offend. Harley's have a tendance to vibrate a lot!

I looked at the ISO grips... if they made them in black in addition to chrome (gawd... did i just say that!) I would buy them. On the other hand I could get some polished billet or chrome hand controls to match the grips!

I put on those Iso grips early July, not because of buzz, but mostly because the larger diameter is way easier on my finger. The middle one on my right hand (ya right)has some kind of "itis" and those grips are a big improvement over having a clinched fist all day.

Dang, if they'd have come up with something like that years ago, I might still be riding my old Velocette!

Kury ISO's did it for me too. The gel may be too mushy? Just a thought.

I got a pair of Olympia with the gel. I have only had them a couple of weeks & haven't done an extended ride yet...but they seem ok.
we should do this every weekend!

I just got a pair from Leatherup.com. They are what they call midseason gloves. For riding in Spring and Fall when its too cold for summer gloves and not cold enough for the Gortex winter gloves. The gel palm seems a little bulky but like Yota said, haven't done a long trip yet. Maybe next Thursday will be a long one, 10 hours by Mapquest!!! Steve

I bought these back in the Spring, and though it took a while for them to grow on me, I wear them every day, now. MARSEE Summer Performance Glove The reason I did not care for them was that it was still early enough in the season that I was still wearing my Triumph Mesh Raptor jacket, and I felt the Marsee gloves were a bit of a bother with the narrow sleeve cuffs of that jacket, and they felt "thick", as in no "feel". Now in the Summer I wear no jacket at all, maybe the Raptor at night for the reflectivity on occassion, but the Marsees I wear on every ride. They broke in a bit, and the "feel" is there, and yes, I have worn them in pouring rain - and they work great. And they dry fairly quickly, too. I got them soaked through last Saturday morning, and then rode them on a night ride Saturday night - though still wet when I pulled them on, I figured better to let them "blow-dry" on the road than to sit on a shelf in my garage. They were dry by the time I got home, but even damp they felt just as good - not at all "squishy", and had at least normal grip. (Now the boots were a different story. ) Though the Marsees don't have the "feel" that my Triumph Highway Gloves do, I do like the style - no wrist strap to fasten, and just long enough to cover the wrist. I guess the gel does it's job - for what little vibration we have to put up with. Overall, they are a very sturdy glove with a lot of protective features that I feel safer wearing instead of my $20 MOTOBOSS mesh gloves that are only a paper-thin leather palm with a mesh nylon back. I can't wait to get back into my Highway Gloves, but the weather needs to cool down enough to justify the longer gauntlets. I keep looking at other "summer gloves", but I have to admit - I have grown to like these a lot.

Just a random thought - I have ISO grips, and anything but a thin layer in the glove's palm feels pretty mushy. Winter gloves with a lining seperate from the exterior glove material feel like I don't have a grip on the bike. Maybe it's something I could get used to. Time will tell.
