Well let me tell you about my great weekend i just had. I was paid a visit by Phil (Bonnyusa)all the way from Sunrise Fl. to Naples Fl. About a 2 hour ride on the alley. I might add two hours with out rain, I will get to that later about the weather.
Phil came accross to adjust my carbs, and rid the evil popping noice. Phil brought all the tools and we started to work on the bike. After examining the carbs we found my bike has the calif. smog emmisions hook up. You see my new ta came from a dealer in calif. What a bummer. We adjusted the air mix a tad, and that was about all we could do. I do plan on removing the smog deal, and i plan on contacting the dealer. If anyone has had this problem give us a shout, we would like to know more about it.
Well back to Phil not knowing this dude, not knowing about bikes I took a chance. He is truely a guy you would call a friend. He has so much info with triumphs and is so caring in his manner. To make this trip and not work on my bike i saw it kind a bothered him. Well we talked a bit and to make it even better Newt from Bonita Springs road down to join us.
We had a great ride with my son Justin included. We had nice lunch and all parted.
The one thing i was upset about was that Phil had some wild rain on his return route home. We were really concerned for him. I finally made contact with him and this guy just took it all in stride. It did not ruin his day. As I said it was a great weekend and I made friends with two great guys which we all are members with. I truely will not forget it.

Yep, both are great guys. Phil has helped me out several times both in person and through PM's, emails, and offering his address to have stuff shipped to. Newt is a stand up guy who not even knowing me gave me a gremlin bell in Georgia last year to watch over me on the ride home. Both I met up with again this year in daytona and it was as if no time had passed between us.

Now the strange thing about this site is normally two guys like that would be the exception. Around here it seems that is the norm. I wish everyone would try and get to a rally to see that there are so many more that are just the same as they are. After four years on this site you would think some of the shine from this revelation would wear off but it hasn't and I hope that it never does.

The vapor recovery system doesn't affect performance, but it does give you slightly better gas economy because you get to burn the gas that would normally evaporate into the air. Also, it eliminates the rollover valve in the tank vent line, so you don't have to deal with the problem of the valve sticking or shutting off because some gas went doen the vent line while filling up.

The only tricky thing about it is that it connects the vacuum fittings on the carbs together. This makes th idle a little nicer, but you have to disconnect the hoses at the carbs and connect the guages there to balance the carbs.

Thanks Doug, I had a good time. Coming back was somewhat of an adventure!

GB, when I saw that system, I didn't want to mess with it to balance the carbs. There were three ports connected via that system and what looked like some sort of a solenoid attached to the backbone. Having never seen one, I figured I'd better leave well enough alone. How does that system affect balance? Also, the bike was running good so I just adjusted the mixture screws to reduce the popping.

Still annoyed me that I didn't get everything I said I was going to do done! No problem, as it gives me an excuse to take another ride!!!!

OK, I might sound a little off, but I'm getting fairly excited about the fact that their are several dedicated Triumph riders in Florida. I work alot of strange hours, but I'm thinking that the chances of a few of us getting together occasionally for a ride is pretty good. I also am very interested in learning more about my bike as far as performance mods and general maintenance is concerned, and I'm glad to see the rich talent pool that exists at this forum in that regard. My only complaint is that I didn't find out about this place for so long. I don't know why dealers don't spread the word a little more to new owners about owners groups who share a common interest. They of all people should know about and promote groups such as this. I found out about this site from a Triumph mechanic/shop owner here in town. At any rate, I'm glad to be here and looking forward to finding out alot of really useful information about my bike, amd making some good friends along the way.

Palm Bay, just a few minutes from House of Power (a good dealer to avoid at all costs!) I've seen a few members nearby but haven't been able to meet yet. I don't have a set schedule at work so I usually have to plan a couple weeks out for any real free time.

Red,

Plan? I need to get Lynn out and on Vera. Saddle time is the ticket so our rearends can be saddle broke for the NorEast Rally ride. PamBay is one direction we'll ride. Another is Titusville. So, if you want to meet and greet at a local diner somewhere in PamBay or Melbourne, let us know! Katana's on the Indian River just north of Space Coast Hardley has some decent grub. Anyway, we'll be out and about after the heat disipates, each and every night (mostly) till the NorEast Rally.
