Anyone else have a weak sidestand/kickstand knob? No jokes needed (but always welcomed). I'm finding the kickstand knob is bending after repeated use. I've bent it back, but over time it's out away from the header pipe and does drag around corners, which I find very disconcerting. Any ideas for a fix?

I heard there are two versions of it out there, some guys have had theirs break off. Ask Phil...

Sounds like bad tempering to me.

You could re-temper the stand,
but there goes the chrome.

Weld a brace of some sort to it,
but there goes the chrome.

Don't know the age of your bike but it may be an issue of 2 different styles?
BTW, I've got a spare sidestand I had planned on having shortened when I lowered my bike but found out I didn't have to.
If you are interested let me know. I don't know what Triumph gets for a new one. Maybe yours is under warranty?

Steve, My was also bent and dragging on corners. I thought I had caused this bend by having the bike in an improper position when I had it on the lift. I hammered it back in place but still have to lift the stand twice to make sure it comes all the way up.

Hey, ask Dill how he "tempered" the whole right side of his bike using a very simple proceedure! Just a few minutes of riding and you're gtg.

Which version of the sidestand do you have? This pic shows the ealier version on the bottom. Note that the tangs are welded directly to the sidestand.

I have the top side stand (one with the bend tang welded across the side stand). Both look like weak designs to me.

Curiously enough old Brit bike side stands were a weak point. Often you'd see a bike with only a center stand because the side stand flange had broken off from the frame. No problem yet but I'm not just super sure about the stand. Would like to have something beefy that was maybe a bit longer or more upright.

That's the new style. My old one is on the bottom with the welded piece I broke off. The new style is substantially better than the old which doesn't help you. My only advice is to treat it gingerly.

I'd still have my old one if I had not tried to gorilla it up after leaving it down on a trailer. I should have loosened the straps....

I have the new style , but it didn't stand up to a 60 mph hit from a 'possum. I was just glad that I didn't hit it with the front tire. When I got home, there was some 'possum skin and hair still on the bent tang. Straightening it back caused some chrome to pop off, but it seems to be ok other than that.

wasn't really the stand itself.
It was the way they were welded to the frame
which would make it the side stand mount that
was a bad design/execution.
