If all goes to plan, this time next week I should have one of these bee-yooties blocking the street outside my house

1972 Buick Riviera 'Boat tail'.
455 cu inch V8.

It's not one of these, these are just library pictures.

Am I insane? No doubt.
Will I regret it? Probably ... bhahahahahahahaha

Wish me luck ...........

The most beautiful Buick made and one of GM's top ten. I lusted after one of them for years. Congratulations.

leaves me speechless, the fit and finish on a '72 Buick? I remember how the doors fit, trunk leaked, windows fogged, and it's wet over there a lot isn't it? But, the style does stir my heart and how many cu in.? Are the trafic lanes wide enough?

But, the gold is my second choice. Looks great!

Adey,

My brother had one of those for the longest time. It was a beauty from the day he got it until the day he sold it and he still wishes he'd kept it! All 455 cubes of gas guzzling American road machine - She was all bonnet and motor, and even standing still, it looked like it was moving fast. Best of luck with it.

Check it Adey. My real baby in the background. Only a pathetic 400 CI but I love 'er. She's not in the condition that it appears in the pict. I really need to rebuild most of the sheet metal and all the systems but I like doing it myself (except the body-work) I really love rebuilding the BOP motors. Let me know if she needs anything. Tons easier to get it while you're here and stow it away in checked luggage on the way home... not that I'd know. Whad'ya mean Absinthe isn't allowed in the states???

The former owner of what was once my favorite hole in the wall bar had one of those. Pretty much a necessity since his last name was Boatwright.
The Riviera is the nicest looking Buick since the '42 - '48 Buick Supers.

Adey,
That is one cool looking car. But you have to tell me. How on earth are you going to get it down half the streets in England. That thing is HUUUUGE!

And, im guessing its probably got a 15 gallons or more gas tank. At over 5 quid a gallons that, err, err a lot of quids

Enjoy mate. I can see turing up at the local brew house being a lot of fun in that 'little' car.

You really have got very techy since the diet thing - not taking steroids too I hope !!!

Sorry about the passport thing - your right it was below the belt and not worthy everyone has the right to do something stupid now and again without being constantly reminded about it.

But now; now you've gone and abused the privelige.

Its really a very kkk nice c-c-c-car kkkkkk

Does it have to get a small car to tug it into parking spaces? Blahhhh ha ha ha ha ha no no stop it.

Seriously - How much is petrol in the UK now?

No I have it. Its not for driving, your just going to open a restaurant in it like they did in the barge on the ouze - good idea

Funny how a car can trigger memories. The mid 80's saw a lot of these big iron cars go to the local 1/4 mile oval race track. Sometimes over 100 cars would go 2 hours or 200 laps, which ever happened first. A friend had a Riv like this and I had an Impala wagon. He lost his brakes and slammed into me on a red flag for an on-track fire. My neck hurt for 3 months. I asked why he hit me and he replied "I didn't want to hit someone I didn't know." He later bought a Triumph Legend after driving my TBS, but sadly died from a bicycle accident a few years ago. I miss you, buddy.

WHY IS LIFE NEVER EASY????!!!!

I went to look at the Riviera this afternoon.
Nice car. Needs a bit of work but I have it square what I want to do.
Problem was, the guy was also selling a 1984 Cadillac Sedan Deville.
350 cu in V8.

What's a guy to do??

So I bought 'em both.

Well I will need a smaller car to save gas on the Riviera, won't I .... ?

Geez Adey!! I love those old caddies. I almost god an 88 fleetwood sedan back in 99 when I was in the market. But I was still in college, and gas was just starting to go up, not to mention trying to park that thing in Worcester... So I ended up with an old Saturn. WAY better on gas! I could cruize at 85 mph in that thing and get 33 mpg! I still have to wonder what Jazz Band gigs would have been like in the Caddie tho... 4 guys getting out of it and then taking instrument cases out of the trunk?! They didn't call us the Jazz Mafia for nothin.

Gotta agree, that trunk IS huge!!
I said to my friend "you could easily get a couple of bodies in there with the mess of having to take the heads off!" ... just sorta thinking out loud.
Though the guy selling 'em did look a little taken aback when Scott agreed with me

EDIT:
I'll fess up now.
My mate is having the Cadillac. He just doesn't have the money right now.
He'll pay for it when he's got the cash.

It was too good an offer not to get the two at the same time though.
It's gonna look like an American car show when we collect 'em.
We'll go in his monster GMC pick up because the Caddy comes with another engine and a sh!t load of stuff so there'll be his truck, the Caddy and the Riviera coming back home

I did that in the car on the way back!

That ride there and back was an experience, my friend drives a 95 Camaro.
It was raining.
We didn't go in a straight line very much

The guy selling the Riviera couldn't pull away without spinning the wheels, like at all!!!
Or while he was driving in a straight line.
We couldn't stop laughing all the time we were in the car.

Just read this thing is something like 250 bhp @ 4000 rpm and 375 lbft of torque @ 2800 rpm!

Think I'd better up my life insurance ...
