So there I was, making a left turn at a (green) light in Denver on my two-month old '06 TS, "T" intersection, no oncoming traffic, checked to make sure traffic was stopped at the light. It was, lanes stopped on both sides. I pull out in the intersection, WHAM! White Ford Explorer attacks my left leg. Passed the stopped cars in the other lanes.
The damage: Speedmaster totaled, both ankles broken (5 day hospital stay,) no walking for 2-3 months!! I am PISSED, mostly about the bike because I don't have it anymore. Just got my D&D's a few weeks ago and they sounded oh so nice!! Driver who ran the light had no insurance, and NO LICENSE!
Guess it coulda been worse, wasn't wearing a helmet, barely a scratch above my knees, save a couple of cigarette-pack sized patches of road rash. I just want to be riding RIGHT NOW!! I was having SO much fun on my first bike. Pretty embarrasing, buy my first bike and 2 months later in a wheelchair. Wasn't my fault, but I guess few motorcycle accidnents are. Oh well, just gotta wait til spring. I wanted a black one anyway!!

Dang Guy. Sorry about your pain and bike. I wish there was something we could do about the "no license and insurance". Will yours take care of you.

Yeah, new bike so I had to have uninsured and underinsured motorist and all that. I'm active duty military, too, ("free" healthcare) so financially I'm taken care of. I'm only out the $500 deductible for my bike.
And BTW, I was always worried that if I ever had an accident GEICO would be trouble because they're kind of a "discount" insurance company, but they've been great. I was even covered for up to $500 for my helmet and stuff I had on me, so I got new jeans, boots (they were cut off of me) and a new ipod (NO, I wasn't listening to it when wrecked, it was just in my pocket.)

That is bad news. Whats going to happen to the person who hit you. No insurance, no license. Are you allowed to shoot those people. Should be. Speed recovery. Hey, and look on the bright side. Now you can get yourself a Red Bonnie A

Actaully your insurance company will subrogate againist the other driver to recover the damages so you should get your deductible back but it might take a while. Make sure you tell the insurance company about the extras on your bike, ie pipes, bags extra, they add value to the bike. Its usually listed as CPE(customer purchased equipment).

My son was hit by an unisured driver. The police didn't even ask him to produce his licence or insurance. turns out the guy wasn't insured. I tracked him down and reported him to the police but they did sweet F*** all !
The MAXIMUM fine for driving without insurance in the UK is £130 - a lot less than 30 gallons of gas !
If you do it today you MIGHT regret it. If you CAN'T do it tomorrow you WILL regret it.

Beleive it or not, insurance companies do not want everyone(including bad drivers) to have insurance. Long story short,I found this out through state legislature. The companies would rather sell good drivers uninsured motorists insurance rather than pay claims that bad drivers cause.

Thats why many states have an auto isurance pool for really bad drivers. We dont have one in NH but we dont require insurance so we have one of highest unisured motorist rates in the country.

Benjamin - Hope the local constabulary are going to hit him with everything they have!!! I would be in there fighting for ya! Was he under the influence or just dumb blind and stupid? Get better soon, and then I hope you get back on the (the new one) bike. Take care! Becky

The lady that hit me was thirty, don't think she was under the influence, but don't know for sure. She didn't have a license, but the car belonged to someone else. I called a lawyer yesterday, but I'm ambivalent abotu suing the pants off someone, especially if they weren't doing the driving.
The worst part about it though, is being active duty military (8 years now,) I could lose my career if I'm not 100% by the time it comes for me to re-enlist. Gotta be able to run and stuff, ya know. I doubt I could get a dime out of the driver or the owner, anyway.

That sucks. I hope you recover fully and soon. Good luck, and thank you for whatever it is you do in the military.

I hope you make a full recovery. I also hope you get compensated for your injuries and the bike.

Thanks all. Hope I'm not spreading too much "doom and gloom." I'm kinda hoping that the '07 SM's will offer some new colors. Don't like the red and "neon blue," but don't necessarily want black either. Anyone think this is likely?
