So if I post a pic of Bush on a Harley, is that too political? The fact is, the country is very divided right now and has been for a time. It’s not pretty, and ignoring it seems wrong-headed. Agree or move on seems to be the attitude in many places these days. Authoritarian/Autocratic rule is needed in some instances, and this might be one, but never expect those being ruled over to accept the rule. There’ll be some bleeding or a while, then things will go on here. Socratic argument is a lost art and these days the talking heads continually try to raise their voices over each other-- this has bled over into the forums with ad hominem remarks, since one cannot write over another's post. I guess I participated in some of those discussions, but to tell the truth, I did not read them all and refrained from personally attacking those of differing opinions ; it weakens an argument. Attack the ideas, not the speaker. But the intellectual approach to debate has been lost and winning goes to whoever shouts loudest, while the reality is that the shouter ahs actually lost both the argument and his/her dignity. Dignity always wins. The anonymity of an online discussion board by its very nature enables some outrageous written behavior, attitudes that would not occur face to face. But they are only words. The bills still need to be paid, the daughter needs a talking to, mother-in-law needs surgery…. the world encroaches and sets things straight. I guess my biggest disappointment is that it didn’t work by adding the lounge, as Grump said. I work in a job where I have to listen to contrary opinions daily. I’m lucky. None of this reached the critical mass for me as it did for some others. cat some discussion guidelines

If the only reason you came HERE is to talk about religion/politics/trolls then you came to the wrong place.
Greg you hit the nail on the head! Like I've said before, someone go start up bonnevilleamericaBSargumentforum.com and link it from here, I don't care!!
And to those of you who say you are bored with the "same old" stuff and the political crap makes it more interesting, if anything THOSE threads are the "same old" stuff over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over....

I wholeheartedly agree with the mods decision to modify the rules established on this site. Thank you, all.
I too agree completely. Thanks Mods!
I think I have mentioned this before, but I will again because to me the similarities are striking. My other weakness in life is diving, especially diving on shipwrecks. I have been a member of a technical diving site for a number of years. It was started by some guys who wanted to start a separate forum for discussions on some of the serious issues involved in technical, deep diving. Before that site was started, the only thing around was the massive sites where all levels of divers, with different preferences, were thrown in together. No problem with that, but the new site created was small, very fraternal in nature, and the sharing of information regarding diving and life was great.
However, there can often be large egos in deep diving. Disagreements on the usual, politics and religion, as well as disagreements on methods of diving, has now led to one of the most mean-spirited places I have ever been. I rarely poke my head in now, and everytime I do it seems like there is some type of serious mud-slinging going on.
Although I have fairly strong thoughts on religion and politics, I tend to keep them to myself. For me, internet debate will not change my opinion. And I doubt I can change anyone else's. I really don't mind others debating the issues as long as it is civil.
However, I really would hate to see BA.com go the way of the diving site I mentioned. You know, the slippery slope phenom. Would it happen? I would hope not. This really is a great site with a lot of seemingly great people here (and no big egos............, OK just kidding). But, simply putting a smiley face after a rude or condescending comment does not always make the recepient of the comment smile.
To me, the price of admission for this bar has changed, and I don't have a problem with it. Still a great place to be.
Anyway, for what it's worth.

Things I like reading about on this site:
1. Motorcycles
2. Beer
3. Music
4. Rides (I heard of the Redwood Run on the site and had a great time.)
5. The experience of bikers from other countries.
I've always ignored the political or religious posts.
If we could discuss strip clubs and T and A the whole political thing would disapear for disinterest.

Well actually that might seem to be the case (the T & A and strip clubs that is) however if a large focus was placed on those there would undoubtedly be a few who would be offended by that. Not many mind you but there'd be a few Im sure.
It seems in this day and age of PC it is impossible to have an open forum of any kind anywhere.
Too many people who fall into a so called minority that get upset about something. You cant even breathe without potentially being non PC.

Kevin, if ya want, just e-mail me. Larry (Ladisney) and I have had several discussions off line about these topics. Shoot, maybe we could just copy Dwight, Larry, and some of the others in these e-mails, and then just get the discussion going that way as we see fit. Will we ever agree on some topics, probably not, but on this we do!

Is it a bit ironic that this ban has been just as controversial and inflammatory as any politicical or religous post in this forum?
