Has anyone got the magic answer for removing the damn lawyer-applied sticker from the gas tank without taking the paint with it? I hear WD-40 and a blow dryer works, but I don't want to try until I get a second opinion. I got the clear tape off of the top, but the sticker below is real stubborn.

The hair dryer trick works......just warm it up though. Don't try to melt it.
If there is any residue left WD-40 will remove it and any wax.

Mine peeled right off. It's not enough stick to damage the paint (just don't use a screwdriver or putty knife ). It left some very small sticky spots and for that I did the following...
If you leave some sticky stuff on the tank, use the sticky part of the sticker and rapidy press/rub it on and roll it off of the sticky parts, that usually does the trick.
You can also just use friction by rubbing a finger or thumb (use some good pressure) and rub the sticky part (until you almost burn your finger ) then it rolls off in a ball.

Forget friction and rubbing. Squirt some lighter fluid on it and wipe it off. When it comes to sticker residue "nothing beats lighter fluid" is correct.

Peel it off the use eucalyptus oil to remove the gum. You can get it at any pharmacy, and it won't do any damage to the paint. (Makes ya bike smell pretty too.)

The easiest thing to use is Mayonase--yep the stuff you put on a sanwich...old used car trick--just put the stuff on and let it sit in the sun for a few minutes...the sticker will shrivel up and won't bother the paint.period. all it takes is a little bit..it'll lift the gum too.

Great stuff for the sticker on paint--what about the one on my Triumph windscreen? Will lighter fluid work on it too w/o scratching the plastic?

Since we're in the fridge...
Whatever you do, do not use beer on the sticker or there will be an unhappy gentleman from NY making a visit to your house.

Lighter fluid will not harm paint, metal, or plastic. There is nothing abrasive about it. It causes the goo to dissolve and you can just wipe if off with a soft cloth. I also keep my windshield waxed with a carnuba liquid wax. The wax protects it and makes cleaning bug residue off very easy (wet towel).

okay, here is a trick, it works with bandaids too for those of you with hairy arms swipe it on, let it sit for a moment or two and then wipe... simple rubbing alcohol swabs work the best. it seems that alcohol emulsifies the adhesive on bandages and works great on that $h!tty sticker residue too. Evaporates quickly, causes no damage. requires little to no elbow grease.

Rubbing alcohol will dull the paint.

The OL claims that Avon Skin-so-soft will do the job.
