Canton Cycles has sold off its Triumph & BMW dealership to Gengras Harley Davidson of East Hartford. Its to bad, they were great guys to deal with. they are keeping the Victory line, and may add a second line next year. Sounds like Gengras wouldnt take the BMW line without Triumph.
The shame of it, all those beautiful Triumphs next to those oil leaking HDs. least they will have the Beemers to keep them company.

I didn't realize a HD dealer could sell Triumphs. Many years ago our local HD dealer was also the Triumph dealer, but sometime in the '90s was pressed by HD to eliminate Triumph. I'm amazed that nowadays a HD dealer can sell Triumph AND BMW. I know a number of hard core HD riders that are looking at the BMW touring bike. Both companies would be strong alternate competition.

Bob, It may be that Gengras is going to sell the Triumphs & BMWs in a differnt location. From what I've heard about them they are a better than average dealer. But than how good can a HD dealer be. Sorry for the Hardley bashing, still POed about this.

That would be beliveable and probably smart to boot. Recently, I haven't seen any HD dealer selling anything other than Harleys or possibly Buel.

Should be interesting when they have a RAT and HOG event on the same weekend. Maybe a bit like rockers and mods at Brighton.

Just talked to the folks at Gengras. HD and Buel on one side of the street. Triumph/BMW/Ducati in the old Chyrsler dealership across the street. Move should be complete by this fall

This is good news for me. I'll now have a dealer 10 minutes from my house. BTW, Gengras has a decent BBQ restaurant on site.

Wow the move should be good for the dealer, having a location in central CT. I purchased TBA to use a local dealer. Could have purchased at Libby in New Haven. I don’t think its any closer in East Hartford. BUT IT DOES MEAN GOING THROUGH HARTFORD ON I-84, LOVELY. I wonder what the boys at Canton Cycle have to say about this. Feeling kind of mislead. But business is business.

Jonathan,
The person I talked to at Canton seemed to imply that BMW wanted them to sell and stock more bikes & access. than they had been. Seems like bike popularity = death to small dealers

I've also heard that Triumph Corporate can be overly demanding regarding floor setup space for Triumph clothing and accessories. I too like all the guys at Canton Cycles. I phoned the Gengras Harley, VP customer relations, they and Canton Cycles are still negotiating. Triumph Corporate must approve the deal, State of CT and DMV. Should be done deal late September. Talked to Canton Cycle Service they will continue general service, Warrant repairs will be worked out in the sales (of dealership) contract. My concern financial naturally 10% parts and labor discount for two years till 5/18/08, at Canton Cycle, Gengeras "oh we do that for Harley sales we'll come to some kind of agreement. I'm feeling a lot left out in the COLD. 40 miles to East Hartford, 16 to Winsted, . Oh well, stress, anger is your subjective interpretation of loss of control. I just hope BIG DEALER
: one dissatisfied customer no big deal another sucker will be in the door any second. However, I guess I should give the new dealer a chance. Will still miss the guys in Winsted.

Imagine some guy willing to plop down up to 25K for a big cruiser if he sees a Rocket III and an Ultra Glide side by side. Or a Sportster and a BA/Speedy or a Buell and a Speed Triple. Lots of guys go straight to the Harley store without looking around, with the choices right in front of them Triumph can only win.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

That's an excellent point, Larry! There are a lot of people who don't do their homework before buyin' a bike. Maybe seeing them side by side for once would open their eyes a bit.

Cheers,
Dwight
(but this kind'a sounds like "riding Harley's coattails", don't cha think?)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
