You get what you pay for. I bought a set of hard bags for only $100 and they were total crap. I gave them away to another member, wouldn't even put them on my bike.
Lots of the cheap leatehr stuff is just the pressed leather chunks (think leather Spam) and fall apart first time they get wet.
