I'm not sure you're actually supposed to lean on the sissy bar. It's more like a stop-gap to keep from falling off the bike. If nothing else it's a great support point for luggage.
Since putting the touring seat and sissy bar & rack on the bike the wife loves riding with me.
The sheepskin butt pads were the icing on the cake.
