Years ago, OK 1980, I was working in the canyon country SE Utah desert. I came across some backpackers who'd been out a few days on foot, miles from the nearest anything and were also about out of water. I had a 6 gallon jerry can in the pickup bed, it was July I think. They poured some out, which was very warm. They could barely drink it, but it was water.
