Hey Graybeard!

I spent grades 1 thru 5 at Cannon AFB outside of Clovis, NM. This was when the F-100 was a state of the art fighter jet. I remember that the playgrounds were really ground in the literal sense. It was so dirty, that we would shake our hair onto our desks following recess and draw pictures in the dirt that fell out from playing in it. Had one kid who would spend his time looking for rattlesnakes at recess. When he found one, he's catch it by the tail and swing it around his head (we're talking a 9 or 10 year old here), walk over to the barbed wire fence that surrounded the playground, and snap its head off on the wire. It was a tough school. They called Clovis 'The Cattle Capital of the Southwest.' I guess everyone had to have a nickname for itself.

Ahh, the memories.
