Any info on non Triumph made crash bars. I would think some company could offer them for less than $160. Also if someone installed them where exactly on frame do they attach? Which bolts or fasteners?

The Triumph ones are two seperate parts that attach to the lower engine mounting bolt, and the pair of bolts that mount the lower part of the frame to the upper part. You'd have a hard time finding better or more solid mounting points than these.

There are other bars around for our bikes (notably the ones from bellacorse) that attach to the horn bracket. I wouldn't want to trust that bracket to hold my bike up in a lay-over. My opinion is that these bars are for looks only.

I installed a set last year and had zero problems fitting them. They look good too!

Which set? Triumphs or Mikes?

I’ve got the Triumph crash bars on my bike. The bar’s mount to the frame and front engine mount. Very easy and secure installation and they will protect your bike. When I went down last year, the crash bars and saddlebags took the brunt of the impact and helped minimize the damage to the bike itself…

I just picked up my bro from a hotel last night. He decided to go putting away some alcohol while waiting out a rain storm and didn't wait for the calvary to come and save him. He took on a curb in the hotel parking lot and down she went. I loaded the tools, grabbed my stepdadinlaw and went to save 'em. He had mustache bars on his bike and I must say. [(you must you must) ] He bought them with the sole intention of them saving his bike, not if, but when, it falls. That $230 investment saved his bike a world of hurt!
We just unbolted the bar and not a scratch elsewhere. I was amazed. Then I rode it home for him. I did put on a kevlar vest and held my head low just in case any of you were to see me on this harley. other than a dented ego, he is just fine and you would never even know the bike touched the ground.
Are crash bars a good investment? After this I do believe so.

I picked up the BC bars from Wojo for a decent price and the horn mounting is lame. The bars were not solid at the top, and they sat crooked due to the offset (horn) bolt.

I added a u-bolt to the right side and it is a huge improvement and a very easy mod. I should have done the left side at the same time and been done with it. I will get to that soon. The left side would only need to be done to improve the overall strength.

The only other thing is the 1-1/2" bars tend to be bigger then the norm, so I little tougher to find bolt on stuff that fits. Kuryakyn makes a clamp for it but charges nearly twice as much as the other sizes....

I finally got around to drilling the left side of the BC bracket and adding the 2nd U-bolt. Added acorn nuts also. If I had planned this correctly from the start, this would have been an easy one hour mod including the drive to the hardware store. I have less than $6.00 in parts and the bars are 200% stronger than the intended mounting.

I would (now) recommend these bars to anyone who wants to add some pegs or protection to their ride......

Thanks, I have to get one of the saddleman bags. Can you suggest an online vendor?

Anyone fitted crash bars on the back? They used to be popular back in the 60's.

If you do it today you MIGHT regret it. If you CAN'T do it tomorrow you WILL regret it.

I've got a set on my '05 TBA. Very strong and good looking bars. Mine tend to get a little rust at the top on the inside where they mount, otherwise very nice.
