I put on a pair of knee pads the other day, and unfortunately, at 5' 8", I think I am too short for them. The left one is quite nice, but my right leg sits lower on the brake and my knee hits just on the lower lip of the pad, which is vaguely uncomfortable and of course therefore the opposite of the intended purpose of the pads.
Notwithstanding that they look pretty cool, any thoughts on how to get these things off without ruining the tank paint?

Anders,
I removed mine a couple of weeks ago due to the left one lifting from not being properly aligned. They both came off really easy, just pealed right off, and neither left any residue on the tank. I then followed up with some polish and wax.
I personally want to put them back on, but haven't been able to find a source for the double sided adhesive/tape that is used. Auto body supply stores sell something similar, but it is only 2 inch wide.

WD-40 usually helps loosen up glue like that.

when you do find where to get the tape....let me know, will ya??? i got a set with no adhisive (price was right) but have never found the tape

I need some pads, but I don't dare cover any gorgeous CARDINAL RED paint, since it'll slow my bike about 10mph.
Knee pads are great for us old nostalgia folks, but almost useless.

Seriously Newt, it works great and it can peel off without messing the paint up at all. It just takes a bit longer to dry. Let it skin over about 15 minutes first and it won't slide off as it dries. Just paint a bead about 1" in from the edge all the way around, one circle is plenty.
In the FL heat, maybe a bit longer to dry completely. 24 hours is fine. You can use some tape to hold it if you are worried about it shifting while drying too.

even after it sets for 24 hrs it still wont hurt the paint down the road if u move them?

I've never heard of this before (at least not by this name) can you give me more info? I did a google search and didn't turn up anything conclusive.
When I took my left pad off, I tried some 3M "emblem adhesive" and suceeded in making a big mess - at least I got it cleaned up before it completely hardened. I've found this glue to be good for almost anything (shoe repair, etc) - although I've never had much success with its indended purpose.

Great tip Pat - Thanks. Very simple, ie: less than 2 beers to completion.
If you have the Triumph pads, you can peel the adhesive off the rubber pads and I roughed up the (rubber) surface with sandpaper before sticking them back on.........

Pat is talking about regular old RTV. The ones from Permatex are the ones I use.

Just looking at the Permatex site for more info, I wonder if their All Purpose Spray Adhesive might work pretty darn good on the knee pads. Check out the link and the data on it....
