Tried in the old post but no bights. I have a general question. I've removed the AI, have Staintune mufflers, jetted to 135 mains pilots standard and adjusted the air/fuel mixture to 3 turns out. Now up to 1600kms on the bike and there is a slight brown/gold discolouration on the bend of both headers, the right slightly worse thant he left... Is this something I am going to have to continously polish out or is there something I am missing. Most riding is on the open road with little idling time??????? Its a real pain in the a**e to see the pipes go like this.

If not a total cure, there is a way to help a lot, but it's expensive. You can get the inside of the pipes ceramic coated to keep the heat inside. This may only serve to move the discouloration down to the silencers though, something you would want to ask about before handing over any cash.

Funny, but I cannot remember being bothered about discolourisation on bikes in the 70's, just seemed the norm especially on Triumphs. But now I would like my pipes to stay chrome looking. AI is out and 2600 miles ish and just a tad at the top is blue, but that was like that before I removed the AI. Hope they stop like that!

Chrome pipes turn blue, stainless turns gold... just the way it is. However, it does sound like your right side is running a little leaner. You might want to re-setup & balance your carbs.

Hey, my headers were gold, blue, purple and probably a few other colors. Which is why I just took them to get ceramic coated, on the outside, black. Headers and pipes, just too lazy to continue worrying about keeping them polished!

I remember I spent a lot of time polishing the pipes on my '71 Trophy. I think it is a "cruiser" thing to keep your pipes shiny. The guys with Bonneville TT's or BMW boxter twins, probably don't worry about it as much -PES

Come to think of it, I believe discoloured pipes fall into disfavour at about the time that it became fashionable to buy bikes just to sit on them and look kewel. Like the couple I saw last year who drove up to a bike run in a motorhome, opened the rear and rolled their bikes out. They rolled them back in a few days later and left, having never even started them.
