Greetings All, Tomorrow I am going to make the deal on my first bike! Of course it will be an America--Mulberry with a bunch of extras. I have taken and passed my MSF class and done all my shopping including picking out the right dealer. So here is my question for all of my new friends here: Every time I have purchased a new car I have gone armed with the dealer invoice price. I can't find invoice price for Triumph anywhere. Kelly Blue Book says that they publish a motorcycle value book that credit unions or libraries should have--but none do. Do any of you have an idea of what dealer invoice for a 2006 TBA is? MSRP is $7899. I like the dealer and don't want to low-ball him, but also would like to get the best deal I can. If you don't know invoice, what would a reasonable offer on a new '06 be since it is the end of the model year? Advice? Thanks!

I believe most dealers are selling every single bike they get so good luck getting it below sticker.

Shop around. Some dealers make deals, others dont. One here in the Chicago area doesnt, they believe they will sell every bike they get, yet another is willing to chop off $ 700 from the git go. It all depends on the dealer. If they sense you really really want it, they will jack you.

Check out this site as a good indication of what others paid. At least don't pay any prep charges and figure 10% reduction on extra accessories. http://www.southernpowersports.com/

I ordered my BA last Thursday (arrives Aug 4) and they told me there were no more at Hinkley and no more at that dealership. Maybe a model change is on the way ? I got a good trade in for my TDM850 - it was low mileage and in mint condition. We're well into the summer here so sales will be slowing up soon and maybe they are keen to shift this years stock. Remember, when he's made his 'final' offer - DON'T SPEAK - the next one who does takes the hit. After a few silent minutes (just look at the bike with a frown) he WILL do you a 'special deal' and take a few more bucks off. Best of luck - ( beginning to grin - THREE DAYS TO AUG 4 !)
If you do it today you MIGHT regret it. If you CAN'T do it tomorrow you WILL regret it.

Welcome Onetbone. It's great to have another from Washington. The dealer in my area had mine on year end sale. I got my Speedy for $7900 in 04. They don't do any dickering on them. The price you see is the price you pay. Dave

Your timing is unfortunate. Dealers are pretty confident that they will sell what they have while the weather is still good. The best time to buy is fall. Anything they have left in the fall has the potential to sit all winter until the spring buyers show up. Sounds like the dealer is in control of this transaction with the limited number of Americas available (or so it seems...) If you really want the bike, buy it! The few hundred that you may save will be forgotten after the first thousand miles are put on. You can always negotiate a deal on accessories and stuff easier than knocking off money on the bike. The markup on that stuff is much higher.
Women and cats will do as they please. Men and dogs should just get used to that fact and relax

I think a good rule of thumb is out the door for the MSRP price. I looked all over L.A. for a speedmaster and the best price i found was $8600 out the door, and that was the list price at the time. Of course L.A. is more expensive than some other areas so that should be the max you pay. Some smaller towns sell em for hunreds if not a grand less. So i'd look at this as max price you should pay unless you only have the option of one perticular dealer and he won't budge. In that case theres not much you can do w/o any competition in the area.

Grab it before they change the name to the "Multi-cultural International Don't Offend Other Countries Twin" or the MCIDOCT for short. I paid $7800 in '02 for mine.

Dealers typically like to get 10-15% over their invoice price. So do the math and maybe they can work something out. Taking 5% off is not unreasonable, unless it is in the prime of the riding season and gas is expensive and demand is haigher than it has ever been....Hmmm. If you only pay MSRP you got a deal these days. And it is nice to have a good relationship with your local dealer. Even a few $$ for this is worth it in my opinion. Unless of course your dealer is a boner, then find another one to deal with. I paid cash for mine, tried to knock a few bucks off, kept stacking 100 dollar bills on his desk,, the dealer just kept shaking his head until we got to the figure he wanted. Worth a try though.

Hey Pat, I paid cash for my '02 as well but never considered stacking $100's on Bob's desk. Are you kidding me? I don't think he would have ever said STOP!

Like Dmillikan said. Check out the prices at Triumph of Chattanooga http://www.southernpowersports.com/ print them off and go see your local dealer. Mine was a lot more flexible once he saw the competition. Unfortunately it was for a friend who bought a T-100 this Spring and not for me since I'd never heard of Triumph of Chattanooga when I bought the Blue Streak.

The dealer I bought mine from wouldn't discount (D&D Cycles, Pensacola), but they have an excellent service dept. and I wanted to have a good relationship with them. The best they would do was list plus freight and 10% off all add-ons at the time of sale and free labor to install. I added on a lot and paid a pretty penny. I could have tried to pit one dealer against another, but didn't. They stayed after hours (day of sale) to get my bike ready and have accommodated me on additional upgrades and service. The hassle free part to me is worth a few hundred. Besides, I wanted the bike RIGHT THEN and couldn't have been happier driving home in the rain.

Ask to put as much as you can on your Visa card, every card has some sort of points good for airline tickets ect. mine has points that goes towards our insurance home owners auto ect. then pay cash for the rest of it. Their eyes light up when you have cash.
I bought mine from Libby's Motor World in New Haven, CT. they were willing to deal on the base price and allowed me to put $2,500 on my Visa and I did spend alot on helmets and other gear at their store.
But to me they are dick heads they treated you like a brother when you were buying but would not p*ss on you if you were on fire after the sale.
Plus they gooned me on the 500 mile check up. I have not been back since.

I bought mine in Janurary, 6500 it was a demo with 85 miles. Maybe I got the guy in a cast discount. I did the play the dealers againist each other game. I could have got one for 6150 at naults but I just didnt trust them as much. Turns out they lost the Triumph line about 2 months later.

John, that's a discount I didn't think about. I put the entire invoice on my MasterCard which I do get 1% cash back on. I put almost $9000.00 on it and they didn't say anything. Still, 1% only amounts to $90. but I got to leave the money in the bank for 30 days.

Even when I bought mine 3yrs ago, I paid MSRP less the $500 set up , but because it was a demonstrator....and they were as easy to find then as now ..like looking for hens teeth. But rest assured,, even after extensive customizing...on mine thats custom21" rim, paint, trees, forks, pipes, and a little extra chopping, I am still under the base cost of a Wide Glide and have an even more unique bike to boot ! MSRP is the going rate unless you luck onto a demo.

Thanks guy--great advice all. I'm really glad that I found this site!
I'm on the way to the dealer today. One quick question then: how many miles qualify a 'new' bike as demo?
Sounds like the best way to establish the relationship with the dealer and for us both to feel good about the deal is to not worry so much about the price on the bike and go for a better deal on the accesories.
I'll let you know how it turns out. I can't wait!

Dont know if there is number of miles that means its a demo. The probelm is the demo models are sold at the end of the model year, no sense in selling one cheap and then having to kill the value on a second bike. This isnt the end of the model year. The other idea is have the dealer check around for used or consignment bikes. My dealer just had one with 1200 miles for 6000 but it disappeared fast. Enjoy

The America hasn't changed much, other than color choice, since it's introduction. Don't overlook the possibility of a low mileage garage queen. If your heart is set on new, a quick check of cycletrader.com reveals a dealer in Brea,CA, socaltriumph.com that has '06 Americas for $6299. Ask yourself if its worth the trip, by the time you got home, the engine would be mostly broken in. Anyway, congratulations on a great choice of bike. When I bought my bike (this spring) I went on the internet and found the lowest OTD price I could find in CA. I then called that dealer and asked how much it would cost to ship the bike to Fresno. With that price in hand I went to our local dealer and told him I really wanted to support our local businesses but I also wanted to get the best deal possible. I asked him if he could meet the price plus shipping. He said he couldn't meet that price but he could come close ~~ close was good enough for me. I was OTD at $8150 ~~ and I got the $500 in free gear.

That's not exactly true. I bought my America as a demo back in April. They didn't have the color I wanted in stock, and apparently wanted to make a sale. The only thing that they had to make sure of was that they had the demo for 90 days so that they could get credit for the sale. Thankfully they did, so I got a great deal on a bike that had more options than I had originally planned on getting for only $250 more than I wanted to spend. On top of that, the dealership has more than taken care of me ever since. As a way of saying thanks, I sent my buddy to them who bought a Rocket III. He's gotten the same treatment.
If anyone is near Southwest Michigan, Life Cycle is a great place to buy a Triumph from.

A guy I work with stopped in to Team Triumph recently and they made him quite a deal, and it was significant in the discount ( $7500 and some goodies I think ). The deals are out there. I got my brand new Speedmaster in April for $6900 and no prep or any additional fees ( When I got it in April, it was a no mileage MY 04, so they wanted to deal,....I got lucky, right bike, right place, right time ), plus the $500 of goodies ( installed for free ). Sindt in Dubuque treated me very very well. Ryan Sindt was my salesman.

I paid full sticker for my 05 TBA. $8,000.00. But they did agree to throw in the Speedmaster wheel kit $790.00 and the tubless Metzler tires $200.00, and the prep, and the low sissy bar $260.00. If you think about the retail bucks to me that saves about $1250.00.
Tell them you will pay the full retail but make them put goodies on it. The goodies cost them a lot less than they will cost you later. I think they have about a thousand in fat on them before they bottom out.
Remember, most are using GE Capitol credit or similar lender. After 90 days they start to pay for the floorplan (all bikes over 90 days in the building). The payments will get them backwards pretty quick. If they have had a bike for 60 days or so, thats the one you want to negotiate on. They need that one out the door. The one they just got in and built they have time to wait on.
I also think Speedmaster is outselling America by a large amount of units. That being the case, the speedys will move for the dealer faster than the TBA. That TBA will be a negotiable item.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

I paid OTD $6,999 plus $20 fee. Asked local dealer if they could match...they couldn't so bought it from 2 states away in Chattanooga and towed it back. It was a blast.
I will say, however, that I've spent at least $1,000 at the local dealer on clothes and various other Triumph things.

Talked with Ryan today, he is ready to make a deal, so the list price isnt a lock. He has both a Speedmaster and TBA ready to go. Call him, Sindt in Dubuque, IA. Tell him you got the reference/info from Todd, that way he knows from where you heard about it.
