The trick to starting a Velo is to tickle the carb just right, (takes practice) pull in the compression release and kick the engine over a couple turns t prime the cylinder, ending at the top of a compression stroke. (That's important!) Then you let go of the compression release turn on the switch and kick as hard ad you can. If you did it right, the flywheel will pick up enough energy to help you get it through the next compression stroke. The engine will usuall fire on the first try and away you go, literally if you forgot to retard the timing on the older ones.
