I was strolling through the food section at the local World Market today overindulging in the sample goodies they leave out when a very strangely named treat caught my eye. The mythical Jaffa Cake, tucked away in the cookie section. I had to find out what all the fuss was about so I bought a box. Now all you ex-pat Brits can get your fill down at the local strip mall. Can't understand what all the excitement is about - I'd rather have a Moon Pie, myself.

I'm going to agree with those assessments. I was rather excited to see they where available and immediately made the purchase. The actual consumption took some fortitude. I found them to have the consistancy AND taste of what amounts to be "waxed crap, with a citrusy aftertaste". I am actually convinced the whole Jaffa Experience was an an inside joke by our brothers from 'cross the pond. However, there is a long-shot chance they actually like them. Mad dogs and Englishmen - Go figure! - We'll never be able to fully understand either of them...

Had the same experience here with Pizza. It looked so good in the movies but it turned out to be cheese on toast ! Welsh Rarebit ! and besides that, it didn't have any Lee & Perrins on it !

I will back your conclusion - I don't like them either.
As to the conspiracy theory, I prefer to let others experience things and make up their own minds! After all I had to suffer them once, why shouldn't you!

You know, it really does seem to be a love or hate thing. My wife can't stand them, but I love em, and, yeah, dunked in a cuppa tea is delicious! As for pizza, hhmm, still trying my best to like it! Now, as far as ice-tea goes .. what the hecks that all about ! (from an ex-Brit .. until they kick my arse back!!)

THAT'S IT! After reading about Jaffa Cakes for months, I finally broke down and ordered a package of McVities Jaffa cakes. Now tell me, what type of wine can you drink with it?......Angelis

Brummie, I would like to see you try a Midwestern fav type of Pizza, it is called the Happy Joe Special. It is thin crust pizza, with cheese, canadian bacon, and sauerkraut. It is a developed taste, no doubt! The nice thing about pizza, there is a big variety out here, many good, some great, and some absolutely awful.

My only problem with Jaffa Cakes is that they don't put enough of them in the wee packet. About 150 - 200 would be just right.
