Just wanted to get everyones view on what to lube the chain with. I've always used oil based chain lube when i had my sportbikes, but when i bought the SM someone told me the wax is better. I've been using it for the past year, and everything seems okay, just a very little rust on the outside (due to not waxing every 500 miles like i should.).

I've been using maxima chan wax for years. Spray it on a warm chain and let sit for awhile. Very clean. There may be something better out there but I won't bother looking because I honestly can't find any fault with the maxima.

I'm gonna try the Amsoil MP HD (heavy duty metal protector) I bought from Brent. If you use oil, I've read that Stihl bar oil is the one to use because of it's tackiness.

I use the Maxima chain wax too, I've always been happy with it, no reason to change for me.

A friend of mine who's been riding for a long time gave me the following tip. I haven't tried it yet but it seems to make sense.
He said to clean the chain with WD40 first. Then take the bike for a short ride to warm-up the chain. Then spray the wax chain lube on the chain. That way the wax will sink in to all the o-rings.
Any thoughts on this method.

Wouldn't the WD-40 repel anything else you put on it, because it is a degreaser...?

Whether you use WD-40 or pure paraffin to clean your chain, I would then wash it and then take it for a ride to get rid of the water and heat the chain. After that spray on the maxima chain wax. It works great. My last chain was good for 22,000 miles.

After hearing some people using WD40 on their chains, I talked with several mechanics at the dealership and all but one recommended not using WD40 on the chain. After using several products over the years, I ended up using and staying with the wax. Works great and no fling.

I'll swear by the maxima chain wax,It's the only one i've found that keeps the back wheel cleen, make sure you warm the chain first and let sit for a while aftr you put it on. I usually apply it when i pull into the garage after work The only thing i found is that you have to take the front sprocket cover off now and then and cleen the wax build up off from around the sprocket. The dealer used to use that white stuff whenever i got the bike serviced while it was under warrenty, and the back wheel would be filty by the time i got home (15km away), one time me and the missus went on a ride after the service and she had the sh** all the way up her right jeans leg and up to her shoulder, she was not impressed at all.
