Unless you were standing outside an actual Harley factory, my guess is the employee is working for "an independent franchised" dealer and thus is not an actual, directly-hired employee of Harley-Davidson,Inc.
I went on a tour of the HD factory in York, Pennsylvania in 1984. When we finished, the tour guide said as we were walking out the door, "This is something I'm not proud of, but hoping it will change with our new EVO engine." He pointed to the 20 or so motorcicles in the employee parking lot - two Harleys, the rest were Japanese bikes. I've been there, I know.
Fascinating tour, by the way.
I went to the local HDealer last week and looked at an Ultra - Black Cherry - Sweet Ride. 2005 model with 1750 miles, 21,000 dollars.

Triumph, it's how I live and what I ride.
