Okay, guys..... I started my "rejetting" project this afternoon, & at this point, the right carb is done, & I have 3 of the bowl screws out of the left carb.

Does anyone have any tricks for getting the rear/inside screw out (I really do not want to pull the carbs for this little chore) ?

it's hard, but you know that. i used a little thumb rachet (has a little knurled end-- bought at ace)and a small mirror. once the screw was broken, the knurled end comes in handy. i think i had to move the idle adjuster out of the way a bit, too.

I pulled all mine out without removing carbs, the left carb rear inner was the only bugger.... I used a combination of shorty phillips, a little longer one - about 2" shank, and then a small thumbwheel like cat. Make sure the tip is snug with no play when inserted; if you're not perfectly straight or using a poorly fitting phillips bit I think you're likely to strip them. Then I think you're last option in pulling the carbs and using locking pliers. Good luck, hope you get it............

Oh, and make sure you replace them with allen heads like everyone suggests, for easier removal next time. I went to the local Ace hardware, found some black finish allens that look sweet (altho very subtle) in my Speedy.

Cheers, Mike

If you have a small pair of needle-nosed vice grips, they work very well at getting those buggers out.

I hope you have Brent's allen head bolts!!

These come in handy... Sears sells them, but the metric bit set came from Matco tools...

One screw on each side would only come out with a pair of vise-grips to break it loose. Buggered the screw, but they went in the trash anyway. Btw, use a little blue locktite on the allen head screws (or factory if reused). When I rejetted the first time, I discovered on of the screws had vibrated out when completing the 2nd rejet.
