I pulled all mine out without removing carbs, the left carb rear inner was the only bugger.... I used a combination of shorty phillips, a little longer one - about 2" shank, and then a small thumbwheel like cat. Make sure the tip is snug with no play when inserted; if you're not perfectly straight or using a poorly fitting phillips bit I think you're likely to strip them. Then I think you're last option in pulling the carbs and using locking pliers. Good luck, hope you get it............
Oh, and make sure you replace them with allen heads like everyone suggests, for easier removal next time. I went to the local Ace hardware, found some black finish allens that look sweet (altho very subtle) in my Speedy.
