After 2 years of running Specialty Spares long slash cuts, I put my stock pipes back on. Wheew what a relief! The bike runs smooth as silk, seems to have more power (probably because I run at higher rpms since it no longer sounds like hell being unleashed) I'm less fatiqued and my ears aren't ringing after a long ride. I also found that all the header bolts were loose...I couldn't hear the exhaust leak with the loud pipes.
I thought that I would have to reinstall the stock jets but the bike runs great with the 130's. I do have the snorkel removed and Unifilter installed. I made a 125 mile interstate trip today and was amazed at how effortlessly the bike ran. I won't be going back to the loud pipes! May have them up for sale soon if anyones interested.

I can undertstand that sentiment, sometimes if your pipes are too loud it causes fatigue, I think there is a fine line between a good sound and too loud. However the stock pipes are ridiculously quiet IMHO

Gooch,

If you're going to sell them, let me know, I'd appreciate a crack at them.

Thanks,

Steve B.

It's very easy to make the SS exhausts quieter if need be. With age they will get louder, especially the higher frequency. You can buy 4-stroke baffle material and tightly wrap another piece around the old and replace. The lower pitch is not much different but the higher highway noise would be less. I plan to do mine this month now that they are a year old.

So you're saying the bike is running fine with stock exaust, 130 mains, uni filter and snorkel removed, correct? Any needle change or are the stock? I tried putting the stockers back on at one point just for comparison's sake, and i DID change the jets and airbox back. But at first i just tried the pipes w/o changing anything else back and the pipes got so hot they were smoking, and i don't mean out the back. There was smoke coming off the pipes as tho the heat was many times hotter than normal, and this was after just a ride around the neighborhood. I assumed this was because the restriction was much to much for the amount of mixture being burned.
