Has anyone used this motor oil listed in the newbonneville.com Performance Oil Change Kit at newspeedmaster.com. I will soon do my first post dealer oil change. Have heard farrrrr toooo many different ideas on oil for the TBA. Mobile, AMSOIL... Just wanted a little info. Price $48.00 seems not too bad when considered the filter and oil plug gasket are included. Or I may completely wrong. AMSOIL is 9.50qt online and $10 at the dealer. Or would I be better off just going down to the local Advance or NAPA or Pep boys???

i have used it and it works as good as the mobil the dealer sells. this is actually the way i am going to go now because it is a bit cheaper then dealer prices

I know from all I have read on various Triumph chat rooms the dealer is the last place one would want to by much of anything. People have written about the Harley Tax, it appears there is also a Triumph Tax.

I get Brent's oil change kits too. In fact I'm about due... It's just so easy. You get all the bits, and the right amount, etc. Good times.

Now am I"m to assume that Brent's oil change kit is a synthetic oil?I"m due real soon and am going to need to get some oil.

I use Valvoline 4 stroke oil. Costs about $3.50/qt at my local Auto Zone.

How long have you been using the Valvoline? Is it synthectic blend? did not state on web site.

Been in the bike for about 6,000 miles now. According to this Amsoil produced test, it's petroleum. I've used the Triumph Mobil, regualr Mobil MX4T, Amsoil, Mobil 1 Gold Cap, and now Valvoline, and I haven't noticed any difference between any of them...the bike runs the same, and the clutch has never hiccuped in almost 42,000 miles.

Do you change the valvoline oil more frequently than synthetic?

Nope, I change it every 4,000 miles, just like I always have.

Somehow I have to think the whole gotta use sythetic is a bit of overkill.

Derek has been changing his oil at a frequency much greater than the manual demands. Thats got to be a good thing. The cheapest sythetic you can find in Tucson is usually the Mobil one 10w40 or 20W 50 and it can be found at Walmart on a good day for 7.99 a quart. $3.50 a quart is a good savings especially if you are gonna drain it and replace it every 3 to 4 K. Derek racks up some miles so he dont wanna go broke buying oil.

Perhaps I should try that. I have changed my oil now three times in less than six thousand miles. Once at 500 again at around 1500 and then at 4300 all with either Mobil one full sythetic or Mobil one syn.

I coulda bought a few cheeseburgers with the savings.

Yes, I change my oil more frequently than the manual now says. I do it because of the heat I ride in. Most summer days around here are at or over 100 degrees. Of course I don't have any scientific proof to back up my more frequent oil changes, it's just what I do.

I was at the dealer last week ordering some TBS needles and I noticed they had the Triumph racing oil for $56/gallon!

took a week to get my TBS needles when I ordered em. Yea that Triumph badged oil is like GOLD.

you can also get oil from your local BMW Motorcycle dealer, it's 15W50, JASO MA, and of course whatever the latest SAE is, so meets every single point of the Triumph Spec. And it's 7.50/qt, so together with the K&N Oil Filter, about $42, even better.

I've been gathering up roadkill, putting it between 2 hot metal plates in my vise, and collecting the drippings to use in the bike. It don't cost anything and I'm performing a public service......

And the fur helps quiet the valve train noise....

Grump, you gotta be careful about doing that, most animals are just fine, but you can't use oppossum!! I checked, and they are only 5W30, only rated to API SF and are NOT JASO MA, so using oppossums might void your warranty! However, raccoons are able to meet all the specs and only cost about $1.20 a pelt (gas to drive around and scrape them up)...

Did my 1st oil change used Motul 15-50 motor oil. Had problem with removing oil filter, Used claw type grip filter remover dented filter, STOP, bought 2 7/8 to 3 1/2 in filter wrench TOO BIG Oh my. Used my leather belt around filter with oil filter wrench, did the trick. Other item I was surprised at the "CRACK" or "POP" when loosened the oil plug. Oh rookie mistake forgot to fill oil filter with oil. Is this a big problem? I would think some of the oil from filling the crankcase slowly would trickle to the filter. Started her UP runs fine, put cardboard under TBA, got up this am NO LEAKS. Took my first ride yesterday after the oil change, wow seems to have more power, less vibration, and sounds very smooth. For me the 15-50 will be the way to go. I think the dealer used 10-40. Read on another thread $100 to $200 dealer charge for oil change. Plus I saved $50.00 for 6000 mile service.

I just bought Lucas 20W50 motorcycle Oil, full Synthetic, the book calls for 15W50 but I don't think my America will know the 5 degree difference. The oil was $8. a quart at O'Reilys auto parts store and the FRAM filter was $6.20.
My Triumph dealer quoted me $51.00 for the 4 quarts of Mobil 1 oil and $12.75 for the Triumph filter.I saved $20. bucks plus the $200. that they were going to charge to do it.

In an attempt to clear up some confusion about oils here is a break down of the different Groups of oils:

Group 1: Petroleum based oil no longer used (old technology)
Group 2: Petroleum based oil sold as Petroleum motor oil.
Group 3: Petroleum based oil. Refined at a higher temp and injected with Nitrogen. Sold as synthetic based oil by Castrol,Mobil 1, Valvoline etc,.
Group 4: Synthetic based POA oil. Used by Amsoil (they actually use a blend of mostly Group 4 with some Group 5 oil).
Group 5: Synthetic based Ester oil. Used by Motul & Redline .
Group 6: Synthetic based Liquid Gas oil. Not in commercial use as of yet.
