A friend rode her very nice HD Softail Deluxe to work today in honor of "Ride Your Bike to Work Day".

I commented to my Honda VTX1300 rider friend that the HD looks dinky? Maybe my eyesight is going bad (yes) or it was the white/black 2tone color scheme or lower seat but here are the dimensions.

Triumph America 2006
Length 95.2
Seat Height 28.3
Wheelbase 65.2
Dry Weight 497
Fuel 4.4 g

HD Softail Deluxe 2006
Length 94.7
Seat Height 26.5
Wheelbase 64.5
Dry Weight 693
Fuel 5.0

Honda VTX 2006
Length ??
Seat Height 27.35
Wheelbase 65.7
Dry Weight 669.0
Fuel 4.8

I just find it surprising the lower seat and 3/4 inch wheelbase difference made the HD look that smaller? Oh well...on to something else to think about.

It's not the size that makes it look dinky. Anything compaired to a TBA looks second rate.

What's most surprising is that even tho we've got a longer bike with a longer wheelbase and a lower seat height our bikes handle so much better. Maybe it's just that they're lighter... like 2/3 of the HD's weight. Be interesting to compare ground clearances and lean angles too.

The shape of the tank makes the HD look lots smaller.

And the VTX 1300 is one of the lighter big cruisers out there! Btw, the 1300 is 101.4 inches in overall length.

That seems pretty long. Assume it includes the extended rear fender on the retro.
