The meter was about 10-15 feet directly behind the bike. The person holding the meter was sitting in a standard chair and held the meter at the chair's seat heighth. Definitely an open area...parking lot. Of course none of this is scientific, and I don't now what type of meter they had. If it's anything like the analog decibel meter I have from Radio Shack that I use to dial in my home theater system, I wouldn't put much stock in the accuracy. My meter pegs at 130db so anything close to that number isn't going to be accurate.
