I was just about to say there's no real point in shutting the petcock off 'cause there is still petrol in the fuel pipe PAST the tap - then I saw kennymc's post and think running the engine a little while will get rid of that bit of fuel.

I always operate the tap a couple of times before setting off - it does sometimes stick.
Had it stick once when trying to switch to reserve at 90 on the motorway. Interesting couple of seconds there!!
