Just looked on Corbins web site. The Classic Solo list for 449.99 but the Gunfighter list for 299.99. Is that right? If anything I would think the gunfighter would be higher. For some reason I had it in my mind the Classic was 299.00

Dang, just looked for my self. That's frigging unsat! Guess I'm glad I bought mine when I did, hopefully whoever has to pay that much for a $300 saddle will get a saddle that they don't have to send back to have softened up.

Wow, a 50% price increase. I just looked back through my records...I ordered a #T-AMER-S from Corbin at the end of March and my cost was $299 + $18(shipping). I even had stitching done within that cost.
I really, really like the Corbin Saddle, but I have to admit, this pricing increase would have minimally delayed my purchase decision and likely killed it all together.
my 2cents.

What do you guys think of Mustang seats.
My buddy calls on them (sales) here in CT. and tells me he can get me a deal on a custom made set with a lumbar support for my back (broke it in 87 three rods two plates and 12 screws). After about a hundred miles I'm feeling it and I plan on going to the NorEast Rally which will be about a 400 mile run for me in Sept..
So this will be my first major purchase and I have decided the current seat has to go. So any ideas from guys with bad backs would be appreciated.

Poppy - I have a bad back and the pain sets in quick. This will help ALOT - BACK-A-LINE The only side effect is it will shift some lower back pain up to your shoulders. Long term - you need a new seat. I got the Corbin with the back rest and the difference is night and day. However, the new pricing is really a slap in the face!

Though I love the fit, finish and comfort of my corbin, the price increase would make me look elsewhere. Did the price for the Hardly models go up too?

That must be very recent because I was on there about a month ago, maybe three weeks.Well we live in a free market economy and I plan to exercise some free market economics myself and not buy their products. If every one does that then they will have no choice but to be reasonable with their pricing.

I hear Mustang seats are good, but they don't make one for the America. But if you are local, and get get a custom one, go for it!

That is freaking crazy. I was just about ready to buy one. No way now. That is absolute craziness. A 50% price increase. I don't know of any business that thinks they can get away with that. Guess I'll be looking to have a custom seat done somewhere else. I wrote Corbin letting them know my thoughts. In the most respectful way possible of course.

Several of us have made our own backrests. See my gallery for a photo of how to do it. Cost, about $70 for the parts and custom apostlery from a local hot rod shop. I will try to post it here The metal is just 1/4 inch thick aluminum corner reinforcing brackets from Lowes or Home Depot, attached to the passenger pillon seat.

Looks legit...I checked the solo seat price for other manufactures (i.e. Suzuki) and sure enough...$499.00. Heard other forums also complaining about the price increase. Looks like I got a bargain a few months ago at $299.00.
What a ripoff. I always thought Corbin was an alright company.??.?

I'm glad I got mine before the Ga rally in May. I paid $551 for the Solo and the Pillion, that was including shipping! I think I will send a letter to Corbin too to try to help Airguy. I probably won't be as nice as the big guy. Steve

C'mon Steve, of course I was nice. Two days and no response from Corbin. Big shock there. Probably think they can just hide their heads in the sand and we'll all forget about such an outrageous price increase. I did let them know what my perceptions were of the way people on this board felt about it. Anyways, write 'em a letter brother. Can't hurt. Guess I am gonna just get the progessive rear lowering shocks for now. Already have the front fork kit.

Just sent Corbin's sales department an Email. Don't know if it will help but I let them know that with all the free advertising we give them on this site that we can also take away a lot of business by bad press too. Keith , hope you and Mikemn find an alternate that is just as good. The Corbin is a great seat, it is crazy for them to increase the price that much. Here is the copy of the Email, I was nice to them Keith maybe I shouldn't have been so nice! To the Corbin Customer Service Staff, I am writing this in behalf of a friend of mine Keith who would like to buy your seats for his Triumph Bonneville America but you have doubled your prices. I understand that gas prices have gone out of sight but to increase the price of your seats to almost double the price you had in April is just crazy. There are a lot of us at Bonneville America.com web site that have purchased your seats and are very happy with them. I can't say enough about the comfort of the Corbin saddle. My friend Keith saw my seats in May 06 at our Georgia Rally and he was going to order them but can't justify the $800. plus shipping for leather seats. I paid $551 including shipping for both the Riders saddle and the Pillion for my 05 Triumph America. I think he is going elsewhere to find an equivalent seat of the Corbin. Your company gets a lot of free Advertising from us on the BA.com web site and I am sure the Harley riders and Honda riders just to name a couple will also agree about the free advertising. My suggestion to your sales department would be to find some other way to recoup your losses for the gas crunch instead of sticking it to your customers. You are going to lose a lot of business, News travels fast through the different biker web sites. You have a great product, don't ruin your reputation by making your prices outrageous. You might as well re-shape your seat by stuffing a bunch of $20 bills under the seat cover, rather than spending it on that...

Thanks Steve. Neither one of us will probably receive a reply. Their loss I guess. Might have to wait for winter and check in with the guy that did Glazer's (Steve's) seat. I haven't heard any comments back from him yet on how likes the new seat but I am sure I will have opportunity to discuss this with him before or during the horrible winter downtime.

Gentlemen, I started the thread on 7/14/06. I emailed Corbin on the same day,yes I was nice also. Guess what no response. Must be nice to have so much business you can do whatever and people just keep flocking in. I'll keep looking,I'm sure some one will have a used one they need to get rid of sooner or later. Mikemm03

After I posted on this topic, I also wrote a letter. I have recieved no response. I was going to buy a new seat from them, but now I guess I will look elsewhere. I hope they wake up, but I doubt they will change the price structure (unless all sales instantly stop). Too bad.

I just ordered the saddle - but than moving to oz I am now impervious to price - 440 dollars to steam clean my bike, ( which was clean and polished) 671 dollars to have it valued so they could decide how much tax to pay - then deciding it was exempt .
1200 dollars for a seat seems suddenly reasonable

and I was just about to buy one too! NOT AT THAT PRICE! Just called the Florida Showroom. The guy I spoke said he had received a lot of complaints, but I got the impression he couldn't care less!! I told him I was taking my business somewhere else! (guess it's not his fault, but I needed to get mad at someone! ) Just got back from a BMW Rally and had a chance to speak to Rick Mayer. He is a bit pricey at $399 for a solo, but it is custom made for your height and weight. Only snag is you have to send in your old seat! I think I would consider that, rather than giving my bucks to Mr Corbin!!

Interestingly enough the HD Sportster solo and pillion are still "reasonably" priced at $350 and $250 respectively. From a manufacturing point of view, you would think these were equivalent to our seats in terms of materials and labor. Must be something very special they are putting in the Triumph seats!
BTW: Since the solo 79-03 sporster solo racks fit our bikes, I'd bet the Corbin Sportster pillion for the same years would work without to much trouble too.

vintage6t, thats a good tip, but for me it is the principle of the thing. If I pay for a custom hand made part, I want it to fit perfectly. If you know the HD part is the same pan, Corbin knows it as well. Even less reason to jack up a seperate price point. Failing to respond to a current customer and being cavalier to a potential new one seals the deal to me, as a NO SALE. You gain customers one at a time and the opposite is true as well. Word of mouth is as or more important than sponsoring some shallow Speed Channel show, especially in such a specialty market. Look at how much Rick Mayer and Brent have been referred to. Quality and personal attention with customer satisfaction on delivery and after the sale.
I hope Corbin at least responds to some of these posted letters, he doesn't have to appologize for making a buck or how he runs is business, I just won't add my dollars to his.
Ride safe, BobW

My guess is they (1) just installed a new Enterprise Supply Chain software system (probably SAP's garbage) and implemented some good ole "Customer Value Management" business practices...focus your efforts on those customers who you make a lot of $$$ on...and don't waste too much time on those you don't. So I am guessing the low volume from Triumph is costing them more so they don't want to encourage those customers, they get a higher volume from HD so let's encourage those customers by keeping price within reason. So, basically they are not interested in promoting Triumph sales...but if you want to buy...you have to pay for it. Just my guess, and probably wrong, but I know Major Corporations who do business that way. The days of "Customer is #1" and "Increase sales" have been set aside for a while...It's now pick which customer we want to do business with and make it a pain for those we don't. AND / OR (2) The accountants have taken over as it has grown from a family business to a larger Corporation. (i.e. The coffee industry in the U.S.; "hey, can't we add 10% low grade coffee to the premium and charge the same price..which over the decades has cost sales big time...thus the recent emergence of Starbucks, etc who make only premium and charge a fortune for a cup). AND / OR (3) it is just a mistake and they are trying to correct the pricing.

dmillikan, I hope it's (3), but time will tell. The majority of the r+d by Corbin was completed on the first seats made for our bikes and I understand there must be a certain quantity that is sold where they break even and then make profit. I agree HD is a large market, but how many Buells vs Triumph sales are there and did they get hit with this kind of price jump? Don't know and don't care to research it. The man still runs his business with his choice of tech assistance and human advice that he chooses. I guess I'm old fashioned as I will gladly pay a couple dollars more for good service. I support my dealer because it is a motorcycle shop and not a boutique where employees have little or no knowledge of the product. This is similar to car dealers placing an added market adjustment on a popular model. I won't buy anything where I feel they're trying to put a fist in my butt just because I must have their product.
Stay safe, BobW.
