Anyone out there know what's the best way to trim a windshield? I found a 19" Memphis Fats w/some minor damage to one edge. I'm thinking about trimming it down to 15" and reducing the width. Was wondering if a RotoZip would work. Any ideas?

I think using a router with an appropriate bit would be your only hope of successfully trimming that windshield...assuming the material doesn't ball up, melt, etc. I think you can machine Lexan...not sure about other materials.

A Rotozip will cut it, but you better have a real steady hand... It might be just as easy to take it to a windshield shop.....

I used a jigsaw to trim mine. I put lotsa masking tape on the front side, then drew my line to be cut on the masking tape. The masking tape keeps the window from scratching when you run the jigsaw over it. I cleaned up the edge with a file and some fine sandpaper afterwards. It turned out really well, even though I kinda rushed through it.

What type of blade did you use w/ the jigsaw?

OK Mouse,

The glass man happened to be at work tonight when I arrived. With your question on my mind, I asked him how he cuts lexan/plexiglass. He uses a cordless circular saw with a fine tooth blade, like a plywood blade, then he dresses the edge up with a file. Bear in mind that he is cutting windows that sit in rubber mouldings, so the smoothness of the edge is not a big priority for him. I asked him about trimming down a bike windshield and he said you can buy a knife at Lowes or Home Depot, like a carpet knife, and with a layer of tape and a straightedge, score it some 30 times or more and then snap the piece off. But you will never get a clear, rounded edge at the point of the cut. You can sand it smooth, but it will always have that rough hacked look to it...
