... Quadrophenia, Tommy, nobody else had the balls to do anything like that when they did it. As a matter of fact I can't think of too many others that did. The Beatles, c'mon?! They were the In Sync of their time. Marketing, marketing, marketing. Must have been wonderful for them to have a bunch of 13 year old girls screaming at them in appreciation of their fine musical talents. Yeah, right. At least as they grew so did their musical skills and breadth of music. The Stones, couldn't get any satisfaction then and can't now. Didn't they go disco in the late '70's. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Yep, as I grew up Sabbath was the way to go, Kiss licked donkey balls. But to compare The Who's music to Barf Brooks and Kiss (my a s s) is like comparing Glenfiddich 16yr. to Jack Daniels (swill IMHO). Who's Next and Baba O'reilly, 5:15, Magic Bus, Squeeze Box, etc., etc., etc., etc. The Who had and has tons of musical talent and innovation. Just because they caught on to a gimmick that got them noticed and some record label contracts does not mean they didn't have talent. They, like anybody else, did what they had to to make it. I 'spose you're a Cat Stevens fan too.
