Hey Newt, I am listening to Clapton's last tour with Billy Preston as I read your post. Man, that guy was a perfect compliment to about everyone he backed. It is cool that you got to spend time with such a tortured genius (RIP). Clapton is back out on Tour with new material this year. I am thinking of catching the show in Jacksonville. He may be playing Tampa which is where I saw he and Preston. Always a fantastic, professional show.
These superbands of the past keep touring, because nothing around today compares. Sure, there is some decent music but against the mega-groups and poets of the 60's-70's, they are all amateurs.
Just my opinion, as I hum "Bell Bottom Blues". Preston made that song even better, and I would never have imagined that being possible.
