Anyone know of a place to download a PDF or something that is the America owners manual. I just picked up my used bike today, a 2003. My first question is , what is the function of the starting key position when you push it in and turn it ???

The last position on the ignition switch turns on the parking lights. The key can be removed in this position but, it doesn't take long to run the battery down, so you would only want to do this for short term parking.

You could go to local dealer and order one though it probably cost $25. You're just as well getting the service manual or posting your questions here. Mostly the owners manual just has multiple warnings that say "everything having to do with this motorcycle could cause injury or death" so don't do anything but look at it or sit on it making "vrooom vrooom" noises.

The owners manual is virtually useless. Worst I've ever seen for a bike. Triumph assumes you'll be haveing the dealer doing everything for you and saw fit to share very little information with the consumer.

Bikes have had that "parking" position built in to the switch for decades. Can't imagine why.

Get the factory service manual...it's money well spent. You can buy it online through Team Triumph for @ $75.

Short history lesson here...
It use to be (a long time ago in a far away galaxy... sorry wrong movie) in some places (and may still be in some places) that when you parked along the street, you were required by law to leave your marker lights on, so other vehicles could see the parked vehicle... hence the term "Parking Light". It is something that just has never gone away in cars or bikes. Although, IMHO... they should stop making it to keep some of those morons from driving with only their parking lights on.
