Will be ordering my TBA this weekend.....decided on making more noise. Short slash, long slash or Speedmaster style (all illegal in this UK bastion of freedom and democracy) ...any recommendations? Will I need to get any other mods done to accomodate them e.g airbox, jetting ? Will that kill the warranty ? I've heard mention that the exhaust pipes go blue very quickly, any tips on how to avoid that?

Before this get's moved to the exhaust forum..... (you'll get the hang of it eventually - saying that I'm still never sure and this is 10 months on...)

Taking the AI off will stop the pipes going blue....or sitting every week and polishing it off... And that won't invalidate the warranty. Most dealers will take it off for you....if they can get a kit. Or know which Nissan parts fit....

The exhaust - I'm no expert. Ask the dealer if it will invalidate the warranty. But I wouldn't have thought so. I'm still grining after taking a baffle out from the stock pipes yesterday... And if I can do that (OK so my dad helped me but I told him exactly what to do..) anyone can.

Gina 03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel... 06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel... 09 America - It's very blue....

Depending on thhe local plod, you will probably not have too much trouble with a more mild set of silencers like Thunderbike (from New Zeland) or Epco Stainless (US) as long as you keep your eyes open wider than the throttle and apply a little less power when they are about. By all means, keep the original equipment and swap back to pass MOT!

I killed the warranty the day I bought my bike and never looked back.

Hi Brummie, I hope that this means you are from B'ham - so am I. I have been looking around for a set of good loud pipes and the cheapest are from Custom Cruiser @ Derby. They do 2 sets: short turn outs (no baffles and serious rejetting) and long megaphones - similar length to the TBA (some baffles but much louder). I have asked Mike who runs CC to take a set to the Rock & Blues Custom festival (w/e of 28th July @ Derby) so I can see how they fit onto the TBA. I still think that the originals look the best and I might try to knock out some baffles. On another note I have just bought the AI removal kit in the UK for about £23

Yup - Northfield -and you ? Thanks for the info. I'll probably get the AI done at the dealers to prevent the 'blueing'and leave the pipes 'till later. I'll be in touch when I get my BA.

hi Brummie, which dealers - I got mine from Knotts @ Stratford. I think that some Triumph dealers will not fit the AI removal kit - let me know how you get on. Regards

Most auto parts stores sell the AI replacement kits as so - the plugs are M12-1.25 oil drain plugs. The vacuum caps are 3/16" (4,76 mm). Wipe clean then re-use the copper gaskets that you'll find when you unscrew the AI tubes that go into the head.

The big hose can be capped by folding then securing fold with a wire tie, or take a section of hose to the harware store or auto parts store and ask for a plug to fit air tight.

Can't believe they wouldn't do it for you.... work is work after all.

But it's not hard to take the AI off..... If I can, anyone can.

And the difference it's made to the performance... I wish I'd done it ages ago. It feels like I've got a new bike, without having to buy one!

Thanks for the info Gina, I think I'll do it after the first service.

Where did you get the parts? Is it reversable? I ask that because if I did it and then had another non-related problem I suppose they could say I'd invalidated the warranty.

I am mechanically competent but I have always worked on older stuff so warranties were not an issue.

They also told me that if I had the off road pipes it wouldn't need any tuning. I'll have a look through this site to check that out.

My son has used a local guy for tuning his GSXR so I might get the TBA on it before doing anything to it, and then again after to see the difference.

Did you get to Derby and hear them? Where did you get your AI removal kit?

Some dealers will supply them, some won't. If yours won't, you can get one here (UK) or here (USA).

I have never used the UK supplier, so cannot guarantee what they will be like. The US supplier, Brent, is very good.

Hi Brummie

I told my dealer that Jack Lilley in Ashford offered to take the AI out for me. He checked with Triumph and they said it does not invalidate the Warranty as long as it is done by the Triumph mechanics..

I bought the parts from Jack Lilley and gave them to the mechanic 30 minutes later AI out and in a bag just incase I ever wanted to replace it(As if).

I'm suprised because they sell non-Triumph AI kits and they did mine when I bought my Scrambler.

I've had four bikes off them in 2 and-a-bit years and I also ride with these guys and I'm suprised they didn't want to do it!!??
