Here in the U.S. it's Independence Day. The day that we celebrate when we told the King of England to go stuff himself, we are on our own. So, I am wondering if you guys in England celebrate "Good Riddance, it about time we got rid of you sorry pain in the arse day". Soren

You're a little early. Of course you wouldn't know it by the fireworks going off in my neighborhood (which are also forbidden by the covenants) since Friday night.

LOL When I was stationed in England, the base would have a big 4th of July shin dig, complete with fireworks. All the locls came out for the festivities. I asked somw of my British friends if they knew what the party was all about, none of them did, they were just enjoying the festivities. They didn't appreiciate it so much when I told them what it was they were celibrating...
Happy and safe 4th everyone! Wendell

When I was on my US tour in 04, I made sure that by 30 June, I had gone up to Canada so that I didn't have to be a party pooper for the celebrations!
That said, all the best to the former colony!

Like FJ says, you're a bit early mate!
I suppose having today off too adds to the party atmosphere, eh?
In answer to your question though, the majority of morons in this country know Independance Day as "vat filam wiv Will Smiff aint it?" and wouldn't know what the Declaration of Independance was if you rolled it up and knocked their bleedin' chavvy cap off with it
Have a good one guys n gals.

Seriously, I think we have so many freakin holidays that people are just looking forward to a long weekend and forget what they all mean! I love the extra day off as much as the next guy, but I know WHY I have it.

It's just another day for me since I have to work. But lots of cold beer and barbeque after work.

It's not even difficult to get a copy of the Declaration of Independance. I got it in about a minute flat through Google (where else? ). Takes a couple of reads though to get the gist of 18th century language.
Magna Carta, now there's a read
Interesting to see some familiar historical names as signatories. Benjamin Franklin, printer / publisher. John Hancock, merchant. Thomas Jefferson, lawyer.

We had some Royal Navy officers celebrate the 4th with us in San Diego in the early 80's. They were very good sports about the whole thing. Although there were a few cool looks when the whole crowd sang along to "The Battle of New Orleans."
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Historically, the 4th marks our independence from Great Britain, but it's come to mean so much more than that. It's a day to celebrate freedom - for everyone, not just Americans. Ironically, we should be thanking the Brits this day - both for the inspiration to get this party started 230+ years ago, and for being our steadfast allies for so many years!
Thanks, mates, for getting our backs. And for the motorbikes. And the Guinness. But not for the Spice Girls.

I'm doin beercan chicken on the bbq this afternoon Good stuff but it means I gotta get on the silverbullet and ride to the store for a 4-pack of 16oz cans. Ya cant use a 12oz to stand the chicken on cuz they just aint tall enough. Anyone got any ideas what I should do with the three 16oz cans (full} that dont get used in the recipie ? I always buy 12oz 6, 12 or 18 pack. Happy 4th everyone !!!!!!!!!!! Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrppppppppppppppppp !!!

Hey Bud, Happy 4th back at ya! You can use those 12 oz cans. I bought one of those wire holders that a can slides into to hold it. I think I got mine at an outlet store, but you can find these at places like The Barbecue Store, and I think Bed Bath & Beyond. They're just about everywhere now and are handy since I like to use Dr Pepper or Pepsi sometimes instead of beer. Hope that shoulder of yours is doing okay.

Well it's just a ride to a different store to pick up one of those beer can chicken racks. Probably a longer ride than just down to the quick mart for some tall boys. Supposed to ride with some friends I haven't seen in awhile, but don't know where we're going. That's okay, I kinda like it that way. Sure wish I could get over to New Mexico sometime soon.

I defiantly agree with that, although you can add Yorkshire Puddings to the list. I liked England so much, I picked up a souvenir, my OL, and if any of you tell her I said that I will deny all knowledge!! LOL
Seriously, we are considering moving back to England when I retire from the Air Force, which, by the way is the end of this month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am baching it this week. My wife is in Indianapolis for an entire week so I get to regress to my old days. I do admit to enjoying at least a few days each year away from the ball and chain. My wife is a veggie tarian now for some eight years and as a result the BBQ does not get fired up much as its only for moi. I did a large bone in choice rib-eye last night. Got some Ribs for tonight. And a few beers for the sake of morale. I have in fact eaten and drunk so much the last few days that I feel guilty. Oh well......guilt is good occasionally.

My GF doesn't do red meat, but does chicken. And when I want a burger, she makes a turkey burger, or a veggie burger (also fine on the BBQ) so there are always ways to get the grill in! Just gotta be creative.

Hey Kevin, zucchini, eggplant, tomatoes, onions, peppers, asparagus, corn and plenty others. There’s a liberal assortment of veggies that are great for grilling .

I'm sure there must be some law somewhere (in my tiny mind perhaps) that says if someone moves OUT of the US into the UK, someone from the UK can move INTO the US .. it's a deal? Yes?

Indeed she is a liberal. (oh the shame) ...It is a shame in fact. She is fully diseased in that regard. Blond, liberal, pretty , and naive as a tree stump. During the 04 election I thought we might have to sleep in separate rooms for awhile. To my credit I did not gloat when my boy beat that whats his name puss from the former soviet socialist republic of Massachusetts. She is lickin her chops though ...she thinks its my turn to suffer this November.
