Would anyone be able to post a pic on AI removal...I'm not sure what you guys are talking about, as I don't have the bike as yet, but want to be prepared. Thanks

Hey Curly,
If you go back to the bonnevilleamerica.com home page there is a section on the left labeled "downloads".
Click on this and open the instructions for AI Removal. You should be able to get the job done from there.

Get the kit now and do the removal before you ride ONE SINGLE MILE! The pipes blue very fast with the AI in place.

I haven't heard of anyone who has had to reinstall the AI for any warranty work.

The bike is running so nicely, that I am afraid to mess something up with the the removal, I cannot adjust the mixture on my 04 yet..no "d" tool.... Can you remove the AI without adjusting the mixture screws? and I think I have the CA emissions on my VA bike, ya think I can leave it alone?

My dealer agreed to do it, so it must not be a warrenty issue, just a 'green' issue...... but suckin' gas and haulin' a$$....

Ah, the D-tool, someone had links on the old list for a cheap tool and how to make one. I know Brent has one on his site.
You can certainly remove the AI without adjusting the air/fuel screws. Just removing the AI will keep the pipes from turning blue.

Terrific, sounds like you have a good dealer. While you are there, ask them to adjust the air/fuel screws, bet they'll do that as well. Who is the dealer, btw?

Yes, have been very pleased, Roxboro NC dealer, they have been very nice and helpful, but not cheap..... what is this with all the MSRP ........ and, as with most, from what I can figure, "just let us know what you want, and we'll order it for you....."

Hi Warren, Regarding the AI removal, in the USA you should not have to worry. Regarding the Air Mixture Screws, a LOT of us have found that the factory doesn't know how to adjust these screws. Some have been turned all the way in and others have been mismatched. It is a good idea to check these. Also, the stock Main jets tend to be too small. Not a bad idea to go up a size or two with your stock pipes. The EPA$$e$ like it lean...

It absolutely did in my case. I bought my bike used with 1,200 miles. Hermey's Triumph in PA had fitted long off-road pipes. The pipes were deeply blued and even brownish in spots. I removed the AI, reset the Air/fuel screws, spent a day scrubbing off 90% of the discoloration. See my photo gallery for what the bike looked like when I purchased it. Once cleaned, the discoloration never returned.

Removing the AI WILL stop the bluing. I bought my bike in April -02, the bluing never had a chance to go further than half an inch before removing the EPA-crap. Buffed it out and nothing since. Turning the air-fuel mixture screws out did also help. One of mine was almost seated.

Same here. No carb changes needed when AI removed. No popping or stuttering. I can't speak about full throttle and high rpm performance though because I am still breaking her in.

AI removal has no effect on the way the bike runs as long as you install the 2 plugs that come with the kit. The injection system adds fresh air into the exhaust after it leaves the engine. This serves to burn any leftover fuel *IN THE EXHAUST PIPES*. The result is a very hot exhaust that fries the finish on the pipes, but has no effect on performance. Most dealers won't mind that the AI is removed. Some unofficially encourage it because there is a good chance that the exhaust valves will last longer without it.
