Quote: You'd think a Triumph rider would know with a Fender, all you're buying is the name.
uh, remember fender=roy buchanan let us not slander the man's machine. and like Pat's(sorry to let ya down oh very young one)both my fenders and my martin are older than you.
so before we go dissin' guitars like some folks dis other sickles, let's remember this, at least there's a guitar in the house for a weary traveler with guitar separation anxiety issues to bond with.
besides, if you're driving as opposed to riding, you might as well fill up your car with assorted stringed "otherwise named" goodies for us motorsickleridingmusicianfools to get our hands on.
First thing is that absolutely nothing beats Fender DESIGNS when it comes to electric instruments and Martin when it comes to acoustic instruments in my not so humble opinion. May I again stress the word "designs". I own in the vicinity of 25 guitars and 5 are Fender designs, 1 Martin, and 4 more of Martin design. I also have a few of Gibson design along with a fine assortment of old Harmony guitars from the 50's-70's.
The only problem I have with Fender is the low quality of the product with the high pricetag. I play G&L guitars (the REAL Fender...ask me if you don't know their story) and the quality for the price is absolutely unheard of. One of my teles, for example, cost me $1200. And this is a 100% HANDMADE instrument.
And because I'm young, that automatically means I know absolutely $hit about...well...anything including music, and vintage instruments. I can say with much certainty that I've plugged in or strummed more guitars than most anyone outside the music world. For 4 years, I made a living as a working musician, playing 5-7 nights a week, and I also used to be a part-owner of a guitar shop, so I've played hundreds and hundreds of instruments ranging from Gibsons & Fenders from the 50's to anything made more recently and about everything in between. So figure that I've played probably 100 teles over the years from every decade of their existence, and this tele sounds as good as or better than any 40 year old Fender. So, why spend $10k-$20k on a comparable vintage product, $4000 on a Fender custom shop (which are phenomenal instruments) or the same on a vastly inferior product (new mass produced Fenders)? It doesn't make sense to me at all...but I may have no grounds for this comparison since I'm young.
We won't even bother getting into electronics/pickups since that truely is a subjective area when it comes to guitars.
But anyways, this or my original post for that matter is not an attack on anyone or their choice of instruments, but an explanation because it seems as if some offense was taken to the yute joking with Pat. And it's not like I'm bashing someone's wife or mother, it's just a guitar I was joking about...ulitmately, who cares?
