Not to rub it in or anything but I went to Northern VA over Fourth of July weekend (Sat to Tues) and it was goooooood. I did half an ironbutt (ironcheek?) each way and I felt so much better when I got home. It was about 520ish miles up and 530ish miles back. On the way up I rode the Blue Ridge Parkway from Fancy Gap to the start of Skyline Drive in 4.5 hours (200 miles and change). I didn't do Skyline since I needed gas and it would have gotten dark before I got to the end. Just an FYI, it's $10 for motorcycles on Skyline now.
Skyline has gas at the Big Meadows Rest Area (which is about 3/4 of the way to the end of Skyline Drive at Front Royal. We buy the season pass for 30 bucks. It's been a real godsend with these 100+ degree (with 95% plus humidity)... it's usually 10-15 degrees cooler up there than down in the bottoms.
