Adey, A consideration you might look into is to get an International Driver's License before coming over here. The good part about them is that most cops will think you are related to some sort of diplomat and it can get you out of tickets. Not that you would violate any of our speed/hemlet/underage girls laws anyway. You should also check into wether or not you might need a visa to get from USA into Canada and back into USA. A friend came over from Australia once and it was almost a catastrophy when he tried to get back into the US. But he paid a "re-entry fee" of $350US and they let him back in a day later.

I'm hoping to be able to ride that distance by then. I haven't ridden at all since the NH rally due to my back. My chiropractor wants me to get an MRI done because he's not comfortable ruling out a herniated disc yet.
If I can't ride, I'll be driving though.

Do you have a backrest? I have two herniated lumbar discs, and the backrest is the only way I could/will make it. Actually, it is one of two ways. The other is chain wax.

Is there a 2 lane that we can ride instead of 90? I know in some parts of NY there are parell roads.

yeah but they add hours and hours to the trip...I just did several Mapquest searches and did the "no highway" "no tolls" options...took it from a 6h 44m trip to 11 hours +

State Route 20 runs parallel to the I-90, it runs right to my house too, and is a very scenic ride, but you go through some towns that will slow you quite a bit.

Mapquest is showing a 2 hour difference between I90 and NY20, I used the no tolls option, I'm thinking that if you hit some of tolls in Albany and jump on 20 after, it should shave considerable time off. After all you cant go that fast on 90. I hate to tell NYers this but you guys dont speed.

dill, Yes, you mUST get past Albany first or you will spend 3 hours just going through there. You can drop down anytime after that and hit 20 west. You wil also miss all of the other big towns (Utica, Syracuse) as you will be south of them. It is a nice scenic ride too with nice hills and dales and not a lot of traffic. This would add about an hour or so to the ride.

He|| why not take 20 all the way from Wustah? It's actually a REALLY nice ride out thru western MA. NYers don't speed the way MA and NH drivers do, but you can do 80 on I90 and be ok.

Dont forget Vermonters christ they drive faster than all of us but they dont have the highways to practice on. I love a state with a 50 mph speedlimit unless posted, and no cops to patrol.

Hey I resemble that remark... (7th generation...) We drive fast but not on interstates... Oh and don't try to speed on Rt 7 in Vermont anywhere between Danby and Wallingford. The constable there holds the world record for tickets written in a year. No sh|t.

I recognize the 4:00 part its the AM part that seems somewhat unfamiliar ...actually when I go deep sea fishing I think I've seen that particular string of characters on the digital clock...so it's deff. doable....as long as we factor in all the required "pitt" stops for the coffee disposal system ....maybe some Burt Monroe ground balls would help!

Hmm 4:00 am sounds like fun, uh not so much fun. We got 40 days to figure out sleep patterns. Benny is that constable worse the one in Island Pond, he has issued tickets to my grandfather for 3 and 1 mile an hour over 30.

Yes he is. The one time he nailed me (I had Mass plates at the time...) I was entering Mt Tabor and had let off the gass cause I knew the speed limit dropped to 45. Right as I PASSED the speed limit sign, I see him flip on his lights a good quarter mile ahead. I figured he was nabbing people coming AT me since he was on the other side of the road. Nope, he was getting me... Man did that suck. I think I fought that one... Can't remember. I got a couple tix in NH around that time too. Brand new (at the time) Jetta with the VR6

I think we'll need to plan out the pit stops carefully. Also, limit the coffee intake by switching to Expresso for increased caffine. 4:00AM in September can be down right chilly. We'll need to dress in multiple layers to lower the risk of hypothermia. What's the wind chill factor at 80 MPH for 6 hours.

Mallard, Most excellent dood and doodette. Be sure to go to Shirt and Patch signup thread so you can let me know if you want them. I will be ordering for the list, so if you don't signup, there might not be any spares. Seems like many folks are coming and I already ordered the patches (75 to be safe).

Hey on a related note Sunday Sept 24 is the fall swapmeet at the Keene Fairgrounds. So if we havent spent enough money on cycle stuff we can stop there and drop some more. I got new jackets for the wife and I in the spring at a considerable discount. The downside is you cant strap that great new project on the triumph so we might be safe stopping.

..I need a road trip baaad.
Not to rub it in or anything but I went to Northern VA over Fourth of July weekend (Sat to Tues) and it was goooooood. I did half an ironbutt (ironcheek?) each way and I felt so much better when I got home. It was about 520ish miles up and 530ish miles back. On the way up I rode the Blue Ridge Parkway from Fancy Gap to the start of Skyline Drive in 4.5 hours (200 miles and change). I didn't do Skyline since I needed gas and it would have gotten dark before I got to the end. Just an FYI, it's $10 for motorcycles on Skyline now.
Skyline has gas at the Big Meadows Rest Area (which is about 3/4 of the way to the end of Skyline Drive at Front Royal. We buy the season pass for 30 bucks. It's been a real godsend with these 100+ degree (with 95% plus humidity)... it's usually 10-15 degrees cooler up there than down in the bottoms.

Do it. We'll be rolling Skyline to Front Royal to 340 to 522 to 15 at the shamokin dam. The way we rolled last year was 81. Did not like that slab. Lots of strip clubs on 15 just north of Harrisburg...Lots of semis to. Too many.
So being as you in that area, is 522 cool?
Time of meeting up has yet to be determined. Preliminary say Monday round noon. So pick out a great greasy spoon and we'll roll in and get some grub. We should be at peaks of otter or such on the BRP Sunday evening.

Well gang, It's beyond me to find a really good place to post since this thread is clearly way the heck out of control. So...this is as good as any. Just an update on the band. We are going through a personnel change that will be resolved by the rally and everyone is looking forward to it. I don't know how many are planning on staying over; I know the one guitarist is not. But...should be a good jam. I think there will be opportunities for sitting in so if you got instruments, bring em and we'll see. Yota wants to sit in he says. He wants to know if I love him enough to let him come up. Now mind you...this is kind of freaking me out a little bit....but we'll soldier on. If anyone sees him about to do something weird...stop him. BB
